Australian Open 2012 Schedule: Day 10 TV Schedule, Matches and Bracket Guide
Eric BallJun 7, 2018
It was a "blast from the past" sort of day at Melbourne Park on Tuesday.
On the women’s side, the 28-year-old Kim Clijsters knocked off top-seeded Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (4). Clijsters had been MIA from the ATP tour since losing in the second round of last year’s French Open but is finally healthy and making a strong push.
She will face third-seeded Victoria Azarenka, who beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-7 (0), 6-0, 6-2 to move into the semis.
The most dominate performance of Day 9 had to go to Roger Federer.
The third-seeded Swissman convincingly throttled Juan Martin del Potro 6-4, 6-3, 6-2 in his 1,000th career tour-level match. His serve was sizzling, and his return game was the best we’ve seen in a while. Federer is attempting to become one of the few to win a Grand Slam at the age of 30.
He’ll be playing No. 2-seeded Rafael Nadal, who had no trouble dispatching Tomas Berdych 6-7 (5), 7-6 (6), 6-4, 6-3.
It’s going to be tough to top Day 9, but Wednesday’s Day 10 has some potential memorable matches for tennis fans around the world.
On the men’s side, top-seeded Novak Djokovic will be face fifth-seeded David Ferrer in a match that will be the Djoker’s biggest test in 2012. Fourth-seeded Andy Murray will be facing the 24th-ranked Kei Nishikori in what should be the most one-sided match of the quarterfinals.
Switching gears to the women, Wednesday’s quarterfinals features two players who aren’t even ranked.
Ekaterina Makarova is fresh off her shocking upset of Serena Williams and will now be playing fourth-seeded Maria Sharapova, who is now the favorite to take home the first Grand Slam of 2012.
Second-ranked Petra Kvitova will be playing the Italian Sara Errani in the other quarterfinal.
The competition is really starting to heat up at Melbourne Park, and now is not the time to miss out on all the action.
Coverage begins at 7 p.m. EST on the Tennis Channel and continues from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. and from 3:30 a.m. to 6 a.m. EST on ESPN2.
