Super Bowl 2012: Why New England's Offense Will Own the Big Game
The New England Patriots have won 10 straight games, and other than a hiccup against a fantastic Baltimore Ravens defense on Sunday, the team's offense has been incredible all season long. In the Super Bowl against a New York Giants team that has a suspect back seven, New England's offense should own the game.
The Patriots finished the regular season with the NFL's second-ranked offense, averaging 428 yards per game. They also ranked second in passing offense, with an average of 317.8 yards per game.
Quarterback Tom Brady is obviously where it all starts for New England and he had another outstanding season. The 34-year-old reigning NFL MVP completed 401-of-611 passes for a career-high 5,235 yards, with 39 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. His quarterback rating of 105.6 ranked third in the league this season.

Brady's weapons also had great years. Receiver Wes Welker led the NFL with 122 receptions, while finishing second in yards at 1,569 and scoring nine touchdowns. Second-year tight end Rob Gronkowski was second among all NFL tight ends in receptions (90), while leading them in yards (1,327) and setting an NFL record for the position with 17 touchdowns.
Receiver Deion Branch added 51 catches for 702 yards and five touchdowns, while tight end Aaron Hernandez finished the regular season with 79 catches, 910 yards and seven scores.
I really can't see any way the Giants will be able to stop New England's offense. New York finished 27th in the NFL in total defense, allowing 376.4 yards per game, while the team's pass defense finished ranked 29th in pass defense, allowing 255.1 yards per game.
The Giants do have a very good defensive line that racked up 48 sacks this season, which ranked third in the league, and they have added nine more in three postseason games. But the Patriots had 612 passing attempts this season and only allowed 32 sacks, which is an incredibly low number.
The only way New York can win the game is if they get to Brady almost constantly. I just can't see that happening, and that is why I think New England's offense will dominate Super Bowl XLVI.
