Roger Federer: Difficult Draw Will Have Fed-Ex Eliminated from Australian Open

Luis BatlleJun 7, 2018

Roger Federer has had himself a telling tournament at the 2012 Australian Open, proving his worth as the No.3-seed with a fourth-round spot locked up.

Federer has won all three matches in the tournament, winning one match without even having to take the court against Andreas Beck in what was a walkover victory.

In both matches Fed played he has dominated his competition with two straight-set wins and 98 total winners. In the two victories over Alexander Kudryavtsev and Ivo Karlovic, Federer had recorded an 80 percent winning percentage on his first serve.,

Talk about impressive tennis from the veteran.

The all-time leader in Grand Slam title may well have experience on his side with four Australian Open titles to his name. That's for certain.

Yet it will be the level of difficulty of his portion of the bracket in this tournament that will ultimately decide Federer's fate in this Australian Open.

In the fourth-round of play Federer takes on an underrated, hometown talent Bernard Tomic, who is bound to have the crowd roaring behind him in this one. It will be a match that will more than likely favor Federer, but there is no question this Tomic will be a tough player to handle for Fed.

Assuming Federer takes care of business in the match against Tomic, he will more than likely square off against Juan Martin Del Potro.

Del Potro has been just short of sensational in this Australian Open, dropping just one set. The key will be the fact that Del Potro has steadily improved his serve throughout this tournament, winning 85 percent of his first serve points in his last outing against Yen Hsun-Lu.

If Fed-Ex can overcome all of the above, a match against Nadal is sure to be the end of what would be a heck of a tournament run for this great talent in the game today.

Federer has the talent and has been playing well enough to make a deep run in the tournament, yet steep competition on his side of the draw will be the deciding factor in his tournament title hopes.
