Rajon Rondo Injury: Celtics Star Leaves Game with Scary Wrist Injury

Zachary D. RymerJan 18, 2012

The good news is that the Boston Celtics snapped their five-game losing skid with a 96-73 win over the Toronto Raptors on Wednesday night.

The bad news is that Rajon Rondo didn't see the end of the game. He had to bow out of the contest after injuring his wrist on a flagrant foul by Linas Kleiza in the third quarter.

I don't have video of Rondo's injury, but Chris Forsberg of ESPNBoston.com provided a screenshot of it on Twitter:

Wrists aren't supposed to bend that way, for the record.

Per the Associated Press, it was announced that Rondo was questionable to return with a sore right wrist.

Luckily for the Celtics, that diagnosis hasn't changed. Here's the latest from Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe:

That Rondo was up to tough it out shouldn't come as a surprise. We are, after all, talking about a guy who played with one good arm after dislocating his elbow in the playoffs last year.

The Celtics can count their lucky stars that Rondo's injury isn't any worse. They're having a rough go of things this season, but it would be even rougher without their star point guard. He's averaging a career-high 14.5 points per game and is once again averaging better than 10 assists per night.

The Celtics are off Thursday, but they'll return to action on Friday against the Phoenix Suns. It's not a lock that Rondo will be able to play in that game, but he could. If he can play with one arm, then he can play with a sore wrist.

In the meantime, we'll wait and see. Keep your ear to the ground for updates.
