What's At Stake?

Big 12 dominance.

Baylor is undefeated this season, in conference play and overall. The Jayhawks are undefeated in the conference as well, which means both teams desperately need this game to get a leg up.

The Bears have never won in Lawrence, which would make a victory tonight especially sweet.

Kansas hasn’t lost a Big 12 regular season title in seven years, and they aren’t trying to give that streak up in 2012.

Both teams will fight hard tonight with all of this on the line.

What They're Saying

Kansas coach Bill Self is extremely excited for this game, according to Gary Bedore of KUSports.com

"

I think we’ll be really excited playing on Martin Luther King Day in a Big Monday game. Getting Vitale (Dick, ESPN) and those cats in here ... I think does add to it,” ninth-year KU head coach Self said of what figures to be a huge hoops happening. “Our guys will be geeked up and ready to go, no question.

"

If you think Scott Drew, coach of the Bears, isn’t pumped up for this game, you would be crazy as well. STATS LLC and The Associated Press has this quote from him.

"

I know our players are excited to play in a good game, and I think as a coach you love having the stage where people can see how our guys can play and also see how good of role models they are.

"

Baylor Player to Watch:
Perry Jones III

Jones is a sophomore phenom and projected to go high in the NBA Draft if he declares after the season.

He’s averaging 13.8 points and 7.7 rebounds per game, which are solid numbers for the 6’11”, 235-pound forward-center combo.

Kansas Player to Watch:
Thomas Robinson

The junior forward has stepped up huge this season and is averaging 17.2 points and 12.2 rebounds per game.

Those numbers are greatly improved from his decent sophomore outing, where he put up 7.6 points and 6.4 rebounds.

Key Matchup:
Frontcourt play

The Bears have one great big man in Jones, but Kansas has two. Robinson and Tyshawn Taylor dominate the paint and make it extremely hard for the opposition to defend both of them.

Baylor will see if their size will help silence a Kansas team that is their biggest threat in the conference.

Prediction:
Baylor 67 - Kansas 75

This game is going to be tight in the beginning, but Kansas will eventually wear the Bears down by constantly pounding the rock inside and outrebounding the opposition.

They also have more experience in big games like this and will have an extremely pumped up home crowd cheering them on.
