Why Serena Williams Will Dominate Australian Open 2012 Competition
Serena Williams dominates the Australian Open.
Since 2003, she's competed in seven Aussie Opens, winning five of them. She's also battled injury in and out of success down under, and this year is no different.
Only two weeks ago the 30-year-old American had to pull out of the tune-up tournament at Brisbane because of an ankle injury.
On top of that, her family's adviser, Kevin Davis, passed away less than a month ago.
It goes without saying that Williams has a lot working against her this week at Melbourne Park.
But that is exactly why she's going to dominate once again.
No other player would be able to handle such an overwhelming task, but Williams isn't your normal star.
The 13-time Grand Slam winner can do more with less than anyone else on tour, and there isn't anyone who can rise to the occasion the way she can when on the court.
And that is the other reason Williams will hoist the cup.
The women's bracket is wide open with Caroline Wozniacki at the top of the board. The 21-year-old Dane has yet to capture a Grand Slam title, and last year's winner Kim Clijsters is also battling an injury.
As talented as four-time Grand Slam winner is, she'll have trouble knocking off Williams in a battle of injured stars.
In fact, there isn't another competitor that can handle Williams when she's on. As long as she's on the court in Melbourne, she'll be on.
