NBA Daily Worst: Biggest Blunders and Most Embarrassing Moments from the Weekend

Ethan NorofJan 16, 2012

Rashard Lewis, SF, Washington

1-of-10 shooting, two points, eight rebounds, one assist, one block, 103-90 loss vs. Philadelphia

Lewis has been a colossal disappointment since joining the Wizards, and he's done absolutely nothing to justify his massive salary.

DENVER NUGGETS VS GOLDEN STATE WARRIORS, NBA

He has been an absolute disaster since arriving on a youthful team that could really use a veteran leader, and his performance in the loss to the Sixers was embarrassing.

Iman Shumpert, G, New York

3-of-10 shooting, six points, three rebounds, three assists, one steal, 102-94 loss vs. Oklahoma City

Shumpert has to do a better job of learning shot selection during his rookie season, and the ill-advised jump shots do more harm than good for his development.

He's going to have bumps in the road as he transitions to the next level, but it's a trend that has already showed itself more than once, and the Georgia Tech rookie would be wise to buck it in the very near future.

Wes Matthews, SG, Portland

Two-of-eight shooting, five points, two rebounds, one steal, 107-105 OT loss vs. Houston

In an overtime loss by just two points, Matthews has got to come up with a larger performance than just five points on eight shots.

He's been inconsistent this season, and for the Trail Blazers to fire on all cylinders, Matthews has to find the bottom of the net at a much higher rate.

Channing Frye, PF Phoenix

Zero-of-seven, no points, two rebounds

It's important to note that Frye started this game considering how poorly he played, and that type of effort is not what the team expected when signing him to a lucrative multi-year deal.

He has really struggled early this season and is not shooting with the same success he did previously, and some are already wondering whether rookie Markieff Morris deserves increased playing time ahead of him.

Biggest Blowout: Dallas 99, Sacramento 60

The Kings were absolutely futile in the effort they put forth against the Mavericks, and to score 60 points in 48 minutes is nothing short of an incredibly poor performance.

Marcus Thornton (14 points) and DeMarcus Cousins (12 points) were the only Sacramento players to score in double-digits, and the Kings have to find a way to improve the team's inability to produce good ball movement.

Biggest Blunder: Francisco Garcia, what are you doing?

The brand of defense Garcia exhibited here is not one that belongs on any sort of instructional video, and the fact that he chose to contest the dunk was a very bad move.

Vince Carter turned back the clock and put on an absolute show for the crowd in attendance.

Sloppy Play: John Wall's Eight Turnovers

Wall neared an ominous quadruple-double with 19 points, nine rebounds, nine assists and eight turnovers in another Wizards loss.

Although he did a better job of spacing the floor and opening up opportunities for his teammates, he has to show better care for the ball to fulfill his sky-high potential.

Failure to Launch: Amar'e Stoudemire Doesn't Show Up

With Carmelo Anthony on the sidelines, the Knicks needed Stoudemire to show up in a big way for an important game against Oklahoma City.

Instead, Stoudemire managed just 14 points on 19 shots and turned the ball over one less time (five) than he had rebounds (six).

That's just not going to get it done.

Failure in the Clutch: Portland Trail Blazers

This is a team that wants to be considered among the elite, but an inability to close out close games against lesser competition is a serious problem.

Portland has to do a better job defensively down the stretch, and that will be an important point of emphasis for this group until it becomes an issue of the past.
