NFL Draft 2012: Justin Blackmon and Most Sought-After WRs in Class
An entire offense sputters without respectable wide receivers. Even Peyton Manning needs a weapon that can create separation and a lack of a deep threat results in safeties creeping up into the box.
Here are five first-round wide-out prospects that can instantly upgrade an offense.
5. Mohamed Sanu
Sanu blew up this season hauling in a whopping 115 receptions for 1,206 yards and seven touchdowns. He obviously possesses the hands and at 6’2”, 215 pounds, Sanu has the size to wreck havoc in opposing secondaries.
NFL Comparison: Kenny Britt
4. Kendall Wright
Robert Griffin III will miss throwing to Wright who caught 108 balls for 1,663 yards and 14 touchdowns this season at Baylor. What the 5’10”, 190-pound receiver lacks in size he makes up for with explosive athletic ability, as Wright is projected to run a sub-4.4 40-yard dash at the combine.
NFL Comparison: Mike Wallace
3. Michael Floyd
Floyd could’ve been a first-round selection last season, but he decided to return to Notre Dame for his senior season and he dominated. The 6’3”, 224-pound monster recorded 100 receptions for 1,147 yards and nine touchdowns this year despite inconsistent quarterback play.
NFL Comparison: Brandon Marshall
2. Alshon Jeffery
Jeffery is kind of a big deal at 6’4”, 229 pounds. Thanks to poor quarterback play, though, he only brought down 49 receptions for 762 yards and eight touchdowns in 2011, but he dominated in the Capital One Bowl against Nebraska catching four passes for 148 yards and a score.
NFL Comparison: Plaxico Burress
Blackmon scored a touchdown in all but two games this season and in that pair of contests, he recorded a total of 18 receptions for 239 receiving yards. In total, he snagged 121 balls for 1,522 yards and 18 touchdowns and is without a doubt the best receiver prospect in this year’s draft class by far.
NFL Comparison: Anquan Boldin
