Michael Jordan's Former Coach Arrested After Dead Body Was Found at Home
Wilmington Police arrested one of Michael Jordan's former high school basketball coaches on Thursday, at the same house that police discovered a dead body of a woman while searching the property on Friday, according to WECT.
Clifton Herring was Jordan's basketball coach at Laney High School in North Carolina.
"Reports say police arrested Clifton Herring in the 1100 block of Cowan Street on Thursday night.
One of the men was arrested at the home for an outstanding warrant, and Herring was charged with resisting, delaying and obstructing that arrest.
The address where police found the woman's body buried Friday is also the same address that Herring listed as his home address when arrested.
"
Police in Wilmington have yet to ID the woman they found on Friday, but it's possible that it's the 24-year-old who was reported missing this week.
In an eventful month for Herring, he was also featured in a recent profile with Sports Illustrated, where he makes it clear he did not cut Jordan from the high school basketball team, and that he instead "placed" him on the junior varsity squad.
One of the motivational tools for young basketball players growing up is that their coaches and parents telling them that even the great Michael Jordan was cut from his high school team, and that to become a great player like him, you must put in the effort and hard work it takes to improve your game.
However, you really cannot blame Herring for cutting Jordan. He wasn't big enough or skilled enough to play at the varsity level his sophomore year, and maybe the disappointment of missing the varsity team fueled him to work even harder as a kid.
Jordan has nothing to do with Herring's arrest or the investigation of the missing body, and according to Sports Illustrated's profile, he has not had contact with Herring for 17 years.
