NFL Playoffs 2012: Why This Year's Battles Will Give Fans Best Postseason Ever

Ryan RudnanskyJun 7, 2018

Take your pick, there is a wealth of storylines in the NFL this postseason.

You have Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow getting set for a rematch with Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

You have two dominant defenses stacked up against each other in the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans.

You have the surprising San Francisco 49ers rising from mediocrity to challenge the high-octane New Orleans Saints led by Drew Brees.

And you have Eli Manning and the New York Giants gunning for their second Super Bowl in four years, trying to take down Aaron Rodgers and the defending champion Green Bay Packers.

Tebow has been one of the biggest storylines of the season, let alone the playoffs. He consistently proves his doubters wrong despite being generally inaccurate from the pocket and the Broncos' thrilling upset of the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Wild-Card Round was a sight to behold.

Tebow goes up against one of the greatest quarterbacks of our time in Brady and one of the greatest masterminds in head coach Bill Belichick. It's a David vs. Goliath matchup, and if anyone can play the David role, it's Tebow.

The Ravens have sported yet another dominant defense this season, led by the ageless Ray Lewis and a imposing cast of characters, including defensive tackle Haloti Ngata, outside linebacker Terrell Suggs and free safety Ed Reed.

They also have a dominant running back in Ray Rice, who has been simply fantastic this season.

The Texans have another dominant running back of their own in Arian Foster, as well as receiver Andre Johnson.

Their defense has also become one of the best in the league after drafting J.J. Watt and Brooks Reed and signing defensive backs Johnathan Joseph and Danieal Manning.

Rookie quarterback T.J. Yates will try to win his second playoff game after a solid outing against the Cincinnati Bengals in the Wild Card Round.

We then have the 49ers, who have developed arguably the best defense in the NFL, going up against a quarterback in Brees who set the NFL record for passing yards in a season in 2011. Look for the 49ers' pass rush, complete with star rookie Aldon Smith, to put heavy pressure on Brees.

The 49ers also have a workhorse in long-time running back Frank Gore, and the Saints have quite possibly the pickup of the year in Darren Sproles.

Last but not least, we have Manning and the Giants facing Rodgers and the Packers.

This should be a great game, featuring two elite quarterbacks and two defenses who have been more than forgiving this season. This could come down to who wins the turnover battle in the end. My money's on the Packers, who notched a league-high 31 interceptions this season.

Take your pick, every game is worth watching moving forward.
