NBA Daily Best of Roundup: LeBron James Fails, Blake Griffin Soars and More

Ethan NorofJan 12, 2012

John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins were teammates at Kentucky, and they're known to be very close friends off the court.

On Wednesday, each tried to outdo the other with an aggressive slam dunk that made the highlight reel in emphatic fashion.

Those two weren't the only ones to throw it down, and there were plenty of exciting plays to share from a full night of hoops.

Best Sneaky Play: Marcus Camby to LaMarcus Aldridge

1 of 12

It's not often that the starting center and power forward combine for an alley-oop, but that's exactly what happened in Portland's game against Orlando on Thursday.

Camby threw it up to Aldridge who finished the play with ferocity, and that's the type of thing that should get Trail Blazers fans very excited about this season.

Best Hustle Play: Rudy Fernandez Takes Sundiata Gaines to School

2 of 12

Fernandez hasn't really been given an opportunity to show what he can bring to a team in a major role, but he did see increased time on Wednesday night with Ty Lawson sidelined.

He does more than shoot the long ball, and his hustle on defense led to a sweet assist at the opposite end of the floor.

Best Follow Through: Chandler Parsons Has Perfect Timing

3 of 12

Parsons has been one of the most impressive second-round picks of the 2011 draft, and he has quickly gained a very sizable role for the Rockets.

He's already overtaken the starting gig for Kevin McHale, and it's hustle plays like the one shown here which will keep him a fixture in the rotation.

Best Assist: Andre Miller's Beautiful Court Vision

4 of 12

Miller often gets overlooked for his ability to run an offense, but Nuggets fans should know about his skills very well.

He put them on display once again on Wednesday night, and the fact that he was seeing the play develop before it did while running out for the outlet pass on the fast break was just phenomenal.

Biggest Blunder: LeBron Comes Up Short

5 of 12

With the Miami Heat down 85-86 with 5.1 seconds remaining, LeBron James had an opportunity to put the Miami Heat up and give the team a chance to walk away with a win, but James missed on his attempt at the hoop.

Luckily, he was fouled in the process.

James came up short on his first attempt, but at least managed to hit his second to tie the game up. However, the Heat would go on to lose in overtime after missing an opportunity to put the game away in regulation.

Best Move: Why John Wall Should Drive to the Basket More Often

6 of 12

John Wall has been taking a ton of ill-advised jump shots, and it's really been hurting his field-goal percentage in the process.

With such elite athleticism and speed, he should make a much more concerted effort to drive to the basket regularly.

Just watch to see what happens when he does.

Best Rejection: Chris Kaman Shuts Down Russell Westbrook

7 of 12

Westbrook has been playing much better recently and has been getting to the rim at will, but Chris Kaman was not about to be a victim of a slam dunk thrown down by a point guard.

The big man absolutely stuffed Westbrook when he tried to sky over him for a slam, and it's one of the best defensive plays to date this season.

Best Dunk Runner-Up: Taj Gibson Puts Jan Vesely on a Poster

8 of 12

There has been a lot of chatter about how Tom Thibodeau has been unafraid to bench Joakim Noah and Carlos Boozer late, but more people should focus on the effectiveness of the Bulls.

Taj Gibson is one of the best backup power forwards in the game, and he welcomed rookie Jan Vesely to the NBA with a bang in Chicago's win over Washington.

Best Dunk: DeMarcus Cousins Destroys the Rim

9 of 12

Some fans thought the Kings should trade DeMarcus Cousins because of his reported off-court issues, but much of that has been overblown and a result of media spin.

A rebuilding team should never trade a talent as great as Cousins on a rookie deal, and he has been thriving since Keith Smart took over.

He had 21 points, 19 rebounds and one ridiculous slam dunk on Wednesday.

Best Alley-Oop Runner-Up: LeBron Goes Up in Lob City

10 of 12

Before James was having trouble at the foul line against the Clippers, he did his best impression of Lob City in the Staples Center.

He went up above the rim with authority and illustrated exactly what his elite athleticism can allow him to do when he's gliding through the air.

Best Alley-Oop: Chris Paul to Blake Griffin

11 of 12

There is a reason Griffin got so giddy when the Clippers acquired Paul, and he was right to call it "Lob City" from the onset of the deal going down.

Watching how effortlessly Griffin glides through the air to catch an alley-oop from Paul is a thing of beauty, and if the Clippers ca execute that regularly, it's going to be extremely tough to defend.

Best Play: Dirk Nowitzki Hits Game-Winner over Celtics

12 of 12

There's not much anyone can do when attempting to defend Nowitzki as the guy is unlike any other who has played the power forward position.

Kevin Garnett was in his grill as Nowitzki drove to the rim with the game tied and time winding down, and the shot Nowitzki made in traffic is one that not many others would be able to do.
