8 NBA Players Who Should Be All-Stars but Won't

Matt ShetlerJun 7, 2018

Every season, there are several up-and-coming NBA players that have outstanding starts to the season.

These guys have what looks to be All-Star seasons on paper and probably should be making an appearance in Orlando for this season's All-Star game.

They definitely have the numbers, but there aren't many spots on both rosters that are probably up for grabs with the amount of superstars currently in the NBA.

Here's a look at eight guys that likely should be making an All-Star appearance this season but won't. There's many more, but this is just a start.

James Harden

1 of 8

Harden is having a great season off the Oklahoma City bench, where he's averaging nearly 18 points per game, good for 19th in the NBA in scoring.

He's worthy of a selection, but may just be squeezed out by the numbers.

Ryan Anderson

2 of 8

Anderson is off to a great start through nine games, averaging 18 points and over seven rebounds per game.

There are very few spots among Eastern Conference big men likely available, and with the season that Toronto's Andrea Bargnani is having, he will be the first new addition to the All-Star roster.

For some reason, Anderson didn't even make the All-Star ballot, but regardless, he has very little chance of making the team.

Al Jefferson

3 of 8

Jefferson is having a great start to the season, but also could be squeezed out by the numbers.

He's averaging a solid 18 points and eight boards per game, but usually, winning teams get more All-Star selections, and while the Jazz are off to a decent start, there's no guarantee that they can keep things up to get Jefferson enough attention.

Brandon Jennings

4 of 8

Jennings is becoming a very good point guard and is having a solid season, dropping 18.1 points and over five assists per night.

Unfortunately for him, there are too many quality guards in the east.

Marcus Thornton

5 of 8

Thornton is having an All-Star caliber start to the 2012 season, averaging 18.7 points and four boards per night, but the Kings aren't very good, and that likely means Thornton has very little chance.

Marc Gasol

6 of 8

Gasol has a chance, and the third-leading rebounder in the NBA likely should be on the Western Conference team, but even though Gasol is averaging a double-double on the season, he faces some competition from Nene.

With the start to the season the Nuggets are having, Nene may end up holding a slight edge over Gasol.

Kyle Lowry

7 of 8

Lowry is a future All-Star, but likely won't make it this season.

For one, the Rockets aren't very good, even though Lowry leads the Western Conference in assists.

His time will come, but it won't be this season.

Joe Johnson

8 of 8

Johnson makes this list because he's been an All-Star the past few seasons, and that often earns you a return trip to the game.

The final guard spot could come down to him or Deron Williams, and if that's the case, Johnson probably loses out.
