The 5 Biggest Trash Talkers in College Basketball
College basketball is game of emotion for these young players. Momentum can flip in just a few possessions and sometimes these players get really into the emotion of the moment.
NCAA basketball has its fair share of loud mouths, the players who will always let the other team know just how bad they are beating them or how they won't be intimidated (sometimes not always in the nicest ways either).
But these players stand out above the rest.
Here are the five biggest trash talkers in college basketball.
1. Duke: Austin Rivers
1 of 5Austin Rivers got the trash talking started a little early.
Like before he is even in college early.
In the video above, Rivers shares his thoughts on the Duke-North Carolina rivalry. Apparently, in Rivers' mind, there is no rivalry right now.
I'm sure this kind of statement by Rivers will make their two matchups later this season very interesting.
2. San Diego State: Tre'Von Willis
2 of 5Although Tre'Von Willis already graduated from San Diego State, he is infamous for his constant trash talking against former BYU standout Jimmer Fredette.
Willis' most notable comments came after Fredette was named the Mountain West Conference's Player of the Year.
""My vote would have been for Kawhi Leonard or maybe D.J. Gay, all-around players who can play defense."
"
When Fredette played UNLV during the season, he scored 39 points against Willis as he tried to guard him.
It didn't work out so well for Willis.
3. The Entire Georgetown Team
3 of 5The entire Georgetown basketball team gets my vote for being one of the best trash talkers in college basketball.
If you watch the video, you will understand.
It takes a lot of guts (and some stupidity) to fight an international club team on their home turf. The Hoyas didn't exactly put themselves in the best situation.
But props to them for not backing down.
4. Cincinnati: Yancy Gates
4 of 5Yancy Gates is infamously tied to the Cincinnati-Xavier brawl that took place earlier this season.
Although Gates wasn't the instigator of the fight, the video on the next page will show you how Gates connected on a punch to a Xavier player's face and then attempted to fight other Xavier players afterward. Thankfully, he was restrained by Cincinnati coaches.
I can only imagine what Gates was saying to the Xavier players during this fight.
5. Xavier: Mark Lyons and Tu Holloway
5 of 5You can thank Xavier guards Mark Lyons and Tu Holloway for instigating the Xavier-Cincinnati brawl.
Lyons, who was frustrated all game, made sure to get some comments in before the conclusion of the first half.
Holloway was in middle of the fight at the end of the game and also provided some strong words in his press conference after the game.
He was upset about some comments said on Twitter by Cincinnati players and made sure they knew how he felt. Unfortunately for Holloway, some of his comments at the press conference make him sound ridiculous rather than tough and intimidating.
