Chauncey Billups' Lighter Side Shines Light on His Charitable Cause
Chauncey Billups will bake you a cake if you donate to the Elite Basketball Academy, a non-profit youth basketball program.
Well, he'll bake you a cake if you donate $75,000, that is.
It's $85,000 if you need it to be gluten-free.
Okay, so not really. But Billups jokes he'll do just that on one of his several hilarious advertisements for Elite Basketball Academy. And frankly, it's pretty awesome to see Billups having some fun to promote a charitable cause.
He'll also DJ your party.
And play golf with you.
I'll bet Chauncey didn't write that joke about his golfing handicap, though.
This is a pretty awesome way for an athlete to draw attention—and donations—for the charity or non-profit he supports. In my experience, a little bit of levity can go a long way.
And let's be real, here—Billups does play the role of straight man pretty well. I'm envisioning a running YouTube bit between he and Metta World Peace, where World Peace (attempts to) cracks jokes and Billups, without reacting, holds up a sign with his opinion of the joke. There would be a whole lot of this:
"You can't tell that I thought that last joke was funny, mainly because that last joke was not funny."
I would watch.
Hit me up on the Twitter—it's the best way to spend the last year of existence.
