Lakers' Anthony Davis Out at Least 1 Week with Abdominal Injury After MRI

Scott PolacekJan 29, 2025

Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis is set to miss at least one week of action after getting injured during Tuesday's 118-104 loss to the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Lakers announced Wednesday that an MRI confirmed Davis suffered an abdominal muscle strain, and he will be re-evaluated in about one week.

Davis' exited Tuesday's contest after playing just 10 minutes. It was a concerning setback for the Lakers for a number of reasons, including the reality that it came when the big man was playing so well.

He is averaging 25.7 points, 11.9 rebounds, 3.4assists, 2.1 blocks and 1.3 steals a night while shooting 52.8 percent from the field. That production is likely to land AD his 10th career All-Star selection.

What's more, he has been particularly durable of late and appeared in 76 games last season. That was a change for the University of Kentucky product considering he last played more than 62 games during the 2017-18 campaign.

When healthy, Davis and LeBron James make up one of the best one-two punches in the league and give the Lakers a chance to compete against any opponent on any given night.

They are far less dangerous when he is not on the floor, although they can turn to the combination of Rui Hachimura, Jaxson Hayes and Christian Koloko in the frontcourt if he is sidelined.

The Lakers were already in need of additional frontcourt depth, so it is fair to wonder if Davis' injury will give L.A. a greater sense of urgency to make a move before the Feb. 6 NBA trade deadline.

The 26-19 Lakers will be back in action on Thursday when they go on the road to face the 6-39 Washington Wizards.
