NBA Rumors: Jazz's John Collins, Collin Sexton, Jordan Clarkson Eyed as Trade Targets

Taylyn HadleyDec 1, 2024

Utah Jazz players John Collins, Jordan Clarkson and Collin Sexton are all considered potential trade targets ahead of the Feb. 6 trade deadline, according to NBA Insider Marc Stein.

Collins is no stranger to trade talks, having been acquired by the Jazz in a deal with the Atlanta Hawks last season.

After an underperforming season last year, Collins is playing his best basketball since the 2019-2020 season, averaging 17.8 points and 8.8 rebounds per game while shooting 53.5 percent from the field.

Collins has one year remaining on his five-year, $125 million contract, which he signed with the Hawks in 2021 and the Jazz inherited. The 27-year-old has certainly been earning his contract with the strong leadership he's shown this season.

"The Jazz are said to be pleased with Collins' play and glad that they took his contract on from Atlanta for the very nominal cost of one future second-round pick," Stein said.

Despite the high praise and being called "kind of the engine for our team" by Jazz head coach Will Hardy, Collins could still be part of a potential trade, according to Stein.

Along with Collins, Clarkson and Sexton are also being eyed as the Jazz are prioritizing "draft position above all this season," per Stein.

The team's ultimate goal is to build around 27-year-old forward Lauri Markkanen.

Clarkson and Sexton would be more appealing trade targets because of the smaller size of their contracts. Sexton is on a four-year, $70.95 million deal, while Clarkson has a two-year, $28.37 million contract.

Sexton is averaging 17.0 points, 3.1 assists, and 2.5 rebounds in 28.3 minutes per game, while 32-year-old Clarkson is putting up 15.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.8 assists in 26 minutes per game.
