Tyrese Haliburton Reflects on Olympic Gold with Viral Childhood LeBron James Photos
Tyrese Haliburton got to live out a childhood dream by playing for—and winning—a gold medal with LeBron James on Team USA at the 2024 Olympics.
In a post on X, Haliburton showed off some images his mother sent to him when he was a kid wearing old James jerseys along with one standing next to the future Hall of Famer with their Olympic medals.
Haliburton also posted an image of him wearing an old Kevin Durant Team USA jersey next to one of him standing with Durant on the court before a game in Paris.
Haliburton was only three years old when James was selected with the No. 1 pick in the 2003 NBA draft. He was 10 when Durant made his Team USA debut at the 2010 FIBA World Championships.
The U.S. men's national team won its fifth consecutive Olympic gold medal in Paris. The Americans survived tough challenges from Serbia in the semifinal and France to get the top prize this year.
Appearing in his first Olympics, Haliburton didn't get a lot of time on the court. He played a total of 26 minutes in three games, racking up a total of eight points and dishing out two assists.
The Indiana Pacers player took it all in stride with a great joke following Team USA's 98-87 win over France in the gold-medal game.
The exposure to Olympic play could serve Haliburton well going forward. Players like James (39), Durant (35) and Stephen Curry (36) could age out by the time the 2028 Games come around.
Haliburton, 24, was the second-youngest player on the 2024 team. Anthony Edwards was the youngest at 23.
Team USA could be going through a transition phase at the next Olympics in Los Angeles. Haliburton is already an established NBA star who is still young and improving, so he could have himself on the radar going forward.
Regardless of what happens in 2028, Haliburton has the memory of everything that happened in Paris to carry with him forever.
