ESPN: NBA Scouts Defend Bronny James, Say USC Played LeBron's Son 'Out of Position'
Bronny James had a fairly lackluster freshman season at USC in the 2023-24 campaign, averaging 4.8 points and 2.1 assists per game while shooting just 26.7 percent from three. It wasn't the sort of year that would have garnered him any media attention were he not the son of NBA legend LeBron James.
But it's also possible that playing for the Trojans didn't necessarily do him any favors.
"The scouts believe that Bronny played out of position this year," ESPN's Brian Windhorst said on Monday's Get Up (2:27 mark). "They think he actually might be better than what he's shown."
The younger James was medically cleared to play in the NBA on Monday after suffering cardiac arrest nine months ago, which ultimately required a procedure for a congenital heart defect.
It has not been a secret that the elder James would love to play with his son in the NBA, though Windhorst noted that the agent for both men, Rich Paul, has walked back the idea that drafting Bronny is a surefire way to sign James as a free agent.
Regardless, the USC guard isn't considered a top NBA prospect and didn't even appear on the latest two-round mock draft from B/R's Jonathan Wasserman.
