Knicks' Jalen Brunson Scores 39, Thrills NBA Fans in Rout of Jayson Tatum, Celtics
Jalen Brunson was unstoppable on Thursday night.
The All-Star point guard finished with 39 points as the New York Knicks defeated the Boston Celtics by the final score of 118-109. Brunson recorded 39 points through the first three quarters.
He finished the night by connecting on 15 of his 23 attempts from the field, adding two rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes on the floor. Brunson didn't play in the fourth, although he was still able to record his fifth consecutive game scoring at least 30 points.
The Knicks pulled away in the second quarter, closing the half on a 25-5 run in order to take a 69-48 lead at halftime. NBA fans were amazed by Brunson's efficient scoring throughout the evening.
The loss wasn't too costly for the Celtics, as they entered the game with the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference already locked up. Still, it was surprising to see Boston's dominant starting unit fall into an early hole that they were unable to recover from.
Jayson Tatum scored 18 points and dished out seven assists in 32 minutes, although he shot just 5-13 from the floor which included a 1-7 mark from three.
The Knicks moved to 48-32 with the win, while the Celtics fell to 62-18.
