Stefon Diggs Traded to Texans from Bills for 2025 2nd-Round NFL Draft Pick

The Buffalo Bills agreed to trade star wide receiver Stefon Diggs to the Houston Texans on Wednesday.

The Bills will receive the Minnesota Vikings' 2025 second-round pick in exchange for Diggs, a 2024 sixth-round pick and a 2025 fifth-round pick. ESPN's Adam Schefter first reported the deal.

Diggs spent the past four seasons with the Bills, earning four Pro Bowl nods and one first-team All-Pro selection.

Although Diggs never finished with fewer than 100 receptions or 1,100 receiving yards in a season during his Bills tenure, he is coming off what was by far the worst campaign of his run with the team, as he recorded 107 catches for 1,183 yards and eight touchdowns.

Diggs had his lowest production as a Bill in terms of receiving yardage and yards per catch (11.1), plus his eight touchdowns tied his lowest output since arriving in Buffalo via a trade with the Minnesota Vikings.

It was a tale of two seasons for Diggs in 2023, as he was his dominant self in the first half and recorded 100 or more yards in five of the team's first six games.

However, from Week 10 on, Diggs only reached the 70-yard mark twice and did not break 100 yards in any of the team's final eight games. He also scored only one touchdown during that stretch.

Diggs also struggled during the playoffs, registering seven catches for 52 yards and no touchdowns in a win over the Pittsburgh Steelers, and three catches for 21 yards and no scores in a loss to the Kansas City Chiefs.

The manner in which the 30-year-old fell off during the second half of last season led to speculation that the Bills may try to move on from him during the offseason despite the fact that they signed him to a four-year, $96 million contract extension in 2022.

Given that it is a pre-June 1 trade, the Bills must now take on over $31 million in dead-cap money for 2024, per Spotrac, which makes it a surprising move from Buffalo's perspective.

Now, the Bills must install a new No. 1 target for quarterback Josh Allen, while the Texans are undoubtedly hopeful that Diggs can bounce back from a down year by his standards.

If Diggs can return the form he displayed over his first three seasons in Buffalo when he averaged nearly 113 catches for 1,396 yards and 10 touchdowns per year, the Texans just acquired a legitimate go-to guy for reigning NFL Rookie of the Year quarterback C.J. Stroud to go along with holdover wideouts Nico Collins and Tank Dell.
