5 WWE and AEW Dream Matches and Feuds to Be Excited About in 2024

Philip LindseyJan 4, 2024

After another eventful year that proved anything can happen in pro wrestling, 2024 started with a bang.

On the Day 1 edition of Raw, The Rock made a surprise return to WWE's flagship show and finally referenced The Head of Table, Roman Reigns. This brief mention could lay the groundwork for a matchup that fans have been salivating over for the past four years.

We speculate about whether it will happen this time every year, but it seems like a showdown between the family members could come to fruition soon. Cody Rhodes may also earn a chance to finish his story at WrestleMania 40, but it's hard to believe WWE will pass on the chance to close the event with a box-office smash.

For now, we'll just have to wait and see. In the meantime, these are more dream matches and feuds to get excited about in 2024.

The Young Bucks vs. Adam Copeland and Christian Cage

1 of 5

From the second Adam Copeland debuted in All Elite Wrestling at WrestleDream in October, fans hoped to see him team up with best friend and longtime tag team partner Christian Cage again.

The former WWE Superstar even admitted that's why he chose to come to AEW. However, Cage rejected the proposition, and the two have been embroiled in a bitter feud ever since.

Nevertheless, don't close the door on the prospect of one last run for the legendary tag team just yet. Never say never in pro wrestling. Cage and Copeland will likely team up again, and what better opponents than one of the most prominent pairings of this era, The Young Bucks?

Matt and Nick Jackson idolized The Hardy Boyz, so it would make sense for them to wrestle their most iconic rivals.

Becky Lynch vs. Rhea Ripley

2 of 5

Becky Lynch vs. Rhea Ripley is a feud that has been in the making for the last four years.

Although the two clashed on NXT in the lead-up to Survivor Series 2019, they have yet to stand toe-to-toe at the height of their success on the main roster. Still, they have engaged in several staredowns since 2022.

It's only a matter of time before their tension finally comes to a head, and WrestleMania 40 appears to be the destination for their encounter.

Lynch is a favorite to win this year's women's Royal Rumble match, and she will likely set her sights on The Eradicator and the Women's World Championship.

Mercedes Moné vs. Hikaru Shida

3 of 5

According to Sean Ross Sapp of Fightful Select, Mercedes Moné has been in contact with AEW, and industry sources expect her to land there.

Fans and insiders have been speculating about where the former IWGP women's champion will end up for a year. At one point, there were even rumors that she could pursue a career in Hollywood and wrestle on a lighter schedule.

However, AEW has become the most likely destination for Moné since her negotiations with WWE stalled. The move would put her on a collision course with the ace of its women's division, Hikaru Shida.

The company's roster has improved with the addition of Deonna Purrazzo and Mariah May, so there is no shortage of potential opponents. If the 31-year-old wants to challenge the best, The Shining Samurai is the most consistent and accomplished star AEW has to offer.

Will Ospreay vs. Bryan Danielson

4 of 5

Last year, Tony Kahn signed Will Ospreay to a multi-year deal at Full Gear.

After a career-defining run across the world, the former IWGP United States champion was set to become the hottest free agent of 2024. As such, The Aerial Assassin is a tremendous acquisition with a fresh set of dance partners to look forward to.

Straight away, a long-awaited rematch with Swerve Strickland seems like the best option for All In London in August. It isn't hard to tell that the 33-year-old is next up, making them destined to face off for the AEW World Championship.

Conversely, a first-time match with Bryan Danielson must happen in 2024. The American Dragon will transition into a part-timer soon, so it's best to strike while the iron is hot and make this dream matchup a reality.

CM Punk vs. Roman Reigns

5 of 5

At Survivor Series, CM Punk did the unthinkable as he returned to WWE for the first time since his controversial exit in 2014.

Ever since, The Straight Edge Superstar has been determined to fulfill his dream of headlining WrestleMania. This longtime goal will likely pit him against Seth Rollins in a match that The Visionary famously angled for after Punk debuted on WWE Backstage in 2019.

Rollins' seemingly genuine animosity toward Punk and drive to be the top guy produced a compelling segment on the Dec. 11 episode of Raw. But fans have been waiting to see The Second City Saint share a ring with Roman Reigns since his appearance on The Art of Wrestling.

The Tribal Chief has taken several not-so-subtle jabs at him since he returned to wrestling, and Punk and Paul Heyman also have history together.

For many of us, this is a match that we never thought was possible. Now, it's potentially the most anticipated confrontation for the 45-year-old as he kicks off his second stint with WWE.
