Knicks Trade Rumors: Cam Reddish Linked to Nuggets, Pistons Ahead of NBA Deadline
Cam Reddish remains glued to the New York Knicks bench and out of head coach Tom Thibodeau's rotation, but he may be on the move ahead of Thursday's deadline.
Ian Begley of SNY reported the Denver Nuggets have "registered interest" in the Duke product but added the Knicks have more recently been in touch with the Detroit Pistons about a potential trade.
Reddish has not appeared in a game since he played nine minutes during a loss to the Dallas Mavericks on Dec. 3. Thibodeau has not even placed him on the floor in the final minutes of blowouts, and it is clear there isn't much of a future for him in New York.
This surely isn't what the front office envisioned when it acquired the forward from the Atlanta Hawks last season via trade. It sent Kevin Knox II and a protected 2022 first-round pick to Atlanta for Reddish, Solomon Hill and a 2025 second-round pick.
Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News reported in December the team has worked with Reddish's camp in an effort to find a trade.
It is fair to wonder what type of leverage the Knicks have, if any, in these trade discussions seeing as how he isn't part of the rotation and is firmly in the middle of trade rumors. Perhaps they can sell potential suitors on Reddish's potential as the No. 10 overall pick of the 2019 NBA draft.
While he hasn't lived up to the expectations that came with being a top-10 pick, he is still just 23 years old and may need a change of scenery from his current situation to unlock some of that potential.
It wasn't long ago Reddish averaged 11.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.3 assists and 1.3 steals per game for a 2020-21 Hawks team that reached the Eastern Conference Finals. Those aren't spectacular numbers, but he was a regular contributor and picked up some postseason experience.
The rebuilding Pistons may see a young player who can either be a contributor in the future or someone they can flip in another deal down the line for additional assets. Or the Nuggets may see a possible secondary scorer who can come off the bench and provide key minutes in the middle portion of games.
For now, though, he remains a member of the Knicks even if he isn't playing at all.
