Stephen Curry to Have MRI on Knee Injury Suffered in Warriors vs. Mavericks

Paul KasabianFeb 4, 2023

Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry will undergo an MRI after suffering a knee injury in the third quarter against the Dallas Mavericks on Saturday night.

ESPN's Jorge Sedano reported X-rays were negative on the injury,

Curry has averaged 29.7 points on 49.3 percent shooting (42.9 percent three-point shooting), 6.4 assists and 6.4 rebounds per game in his 14th NBA season.

The 34-year-old's pro resume includes four NBA titles, two NBA MVP awards, nine All-Star Games, eight All-NBA Team nods and a spot on the league's 75th Anniversary Team.

Curry missed 11 games in December and January after suffering a left shoulder subluxation during a 125-119 loss to the Indiana Pacers on Dec. 14.

NBA.com News Services provided the details:

"The eight-time All-Star was injured with about two minutes left in the third quarter as the Warriors tried to rally from a 20-point halftime deficit. His three-point play with 4:16 to go in the third got Golden State within 83-80.

"But when Pacers forward Jalen Smith dribbled toward the baseline, Curry tried to stop him by sticking his left arm out. Smith continued, and Curry's arm bent back awkwardly. Curry grabbed his shoulder while standing hunched over on the court then walked to the locker room during the next timeout."

Curry did not return. He had scored 38 points in 30 minutes before exiting.

Thankfully, he was able to return on Tuesday, Jan. 10, for his team's home game against the Phoenix Suns. ESPN's Kendra Andrews broke the news that he would play and start.

Unfortunately, Curry has suffered another injury, meaning that Donte DiVincenzo should enter the starting lineup for Curry once again.

The fifth-year veteran, who is in his first season with Golden State, is averaging 8.4 points on 41.6 percent shooting and 3.3 assists per game.

Look for Jordan Poole and Klay Thompson to pick up more of the scoring slack without Curry, and Ty Jerome should see more playing time off the bench.
