NBA Trade Rumors: Why Dwight Howard Should Choose Dallas Mavericks over NJ Nets
The Dwight Howard trade saga is still going on and on like the little Energizer Bunny. What's more, it doesn't appear that the Orlando Magic will trade him any time soon.
However, when they do, the final say will ultimately be his.
Howard is only going to sign an extension with certain teams. While the New Jersey Nets seemed like his preferred landing spot, there are a couple of reason's why he should choose the Dallas Mavericks over them.
For one, Dallas is the defending NBA champion. They are going to be a good team, year in and year out. Furthermore, they have a superstar already in place in Dirk Nowitzki. With Howard added to the mix and possibly Deron Williams next season, the Mavericks look like a much more attractive destination on paper.
If winning a championship is Howard's primary goal, choosing Dallas over New Jersey is a no-brainer.
Another reason is that the Mavericks are in the Western Conference and the Nets are out east.
This means that the only time that Dallas would potentially have to contend with the Miami Heat would be in the NBA Finals every year.
The Nets, though, would have to see the Heat in the playoffs possibly every year.
Let's face it, Miami's "Big Three" would still be much better than New Jersey's potential dynamic duo of Howard and Williams.
While they would without a doubt be good with Howard and Williams, the Nets wouldn't be better than Miami or even teams like the New York Knicks for that matter.
Playing for Dallas in the Western Conference, there would be greater opportunity for multiple trips to the NBA Finals.
Oklahoma City and the Los Angeles Clippers will be good for years. There's always the Lakers, too. However, neither would be better than a Mavericks team that would include Nowitzki, Howard and possibly Williams.
If winning a championship is Howard's goal, the choice for him should be easy. It's the Dallas Mavericks.
Otherwise, that goal doesn't make much sense. He has the same chance of winning a title in Orlando as he does by forcing a trade to New Jersey.
