Chelsea Transfer Rumours: Will Florent Malouda Leave Stamford Bridge for France?

Robert PaceDec 28, 2011

Chelsea midfielder Flourent Malouda revealed that he may no longer be wearing a Chelsea uniform after the transfer window opens in January.

Malouda's playing time has been significantly decreased since the arrival of André Villas-Boas as Chelsea manager this June, and Malouda has expressed his current discontent.

In his previous three full seasons with the Blues, Malouda has averaged 28 appearances as a starter in the Premier League.

With the arrival of Villas-Boas, Malouda's role on Chelsea has been radically changed, as he is primarily used as a substitute. He has started four games and came in as a sub in nine games in the Premier League this year.

“My playing time cannot satisfy me," Malouda told Canal Plus. "It’s too small compared to the ambitions I have and so, if necessary, I will go.”

The 31-year-old from Cayenne, France spent the beginning of his career in France's Ligue 2 before joining Lyon in Ligue 1 for a five-year stint.

Malouda has been playing with the French national team since 2004 and has accumulated 73 caps.

Various reports have suggested that Paris Saint-Germain has been keeping a vigilant eye on Malouda and are hoping to sign him in January.

PSG is reportedly looking for established international stars to complement their league-leading lineup.

An added incentive for Malouda to head back to France is speculation that former Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti will be appointed as manager of PSG after Antoine Kombouare's recent firing.

Malouda was Jose Mourinho's last signing for the Blues at £13.5 million.

The fast Frenchman is a versatile asset to any team and is technically gifted and physically strong. His main downfall, which very well may have led to his sour relationship with his manager, is his tendency to sulk and speak out of line.

Malouda was named the Chelsea Players' Player of the Year in 2010.
