NFL Playoff Predictions: Tim Tebow Is the Wild Card in Wild-Card Round

Ryan RudnanskyDec 27, 2011

If you're looking for the wild card in the upcoming wild-card round of the NFL playoffs, look no further than Tim Tebow.

The second-year quarterback of the Denver Broncos has his team one win away from capturing the AFC West and claiming the No. 4 seed in the AFC.

If Tebow makes it into the playoffs (and I believe he will), he has the ability to surprise some playoff foes. And in the same breath, he has the ability to completely fall apart.

Tebow has been one of the most interesting players in the NFL this season. He's a quarterback without the mechanics or accuracy to figure to be a threat in the pros, but his running ability and big-play ability have catapulted the Broncos into playoff contention after starting the season 1-4.

Tebow has led the Broncos to a 7-3 record as the starter since, but it has been highlighted by ups and downs. He led them to six straight wins, but he hasn't looked good in their last two losses.

By my estimation, the Broncos will face the Pittsburgh Steelers in the wild-card round, a team with one of the top defenses in the NFL.

Tebow has not fared very well against good defenses this season, although he did lead comeback wins over the Chicago Bears and against a tough secondary in the New York Jets.

The Steelers would surely be Tebow's toughest test of the season, but at least it would be played in Denver if the Broncos grabbed the No. 4 seed.

Logic alone would dictate that Tebow would struggle mightily against the Steelers.

Then again, there's nothing logical about Tim Tebow. He's been so surprising and unpredictable this season that you figure anything is possible.

In that sense, Tebow could swing the Broncos past all expectations in the playoffs—or fall apart just the same.

It's 50-50 at this point.
