Gunner Kiel LSU: Tigers No Longer Have To Worry About QB Concerns
The LSU Tigers have proven to be the best team in the country this season.
Just imagine if they would have had a star quarterback to complement their top-tier defense.
Not to worry, LSU fans. Just as senior quarterbacks Jordan Jefferson and Jarrett Lee are headed out the door, a new burgeoning star arrives: the top quarterback prospect in the nation, Gunner Kiel.
Kiel, a senior at Columbus East High School in Indiana this season, threw for over 2,500 yards, rushed for almost 500 yards and combined for 39 touchdowns (28 passing, 11 rushing).
According to ESPNU, he's the No. 1 quarterback prospect in the country and the No. 20 prospect in the nation overall.
It almost seems unfair. LSU projects to have another stellar defense again next season, and now the Tigers have picked up a true offensive weapon in Kiel.
Let's be real, we'll be calling this kid Gunner next season. Gunner has a strong arm, with consistent mechanics and tight accuracy, and possesses the ability to put English on the ball, feathering it over defenders. Not to mention, he's a very good athlete.
Perhaps what is most surprising is that LSU managed to steal Gunner away from his hometown school Indiana, as well as Alabama, Vanderbilt, Notre Dame, Georgia, Michigan, Oklahoma, TCU, Tennessee, USC and Wisconsin. Heck, even Gunner's brother Dusty is a quarterback at Indiana.
My thoughts?
Gunner probably realized after a while that LSU was simply too mesmerizing this season to pass up.
Even if LSU loses the championship game this season, the Tigers are set up nicely for next season.
The rich get richer indeed.
