Los Angeles Lakers: Mike Brown Has Joined the Los Angeles Cavaliers
Mike Brown thought he was coming to the elite NBA franchise with a chance to put in his nifty defense strategies and win a bunch of championships.
Instead, all Coach Brown got was the Cavaliers, again. And, instead of a youthful Lebron James, he got an injured and frantic Kobe Bryant. He also got a strange bunch of misfits, hand-me-downs and former All-Stars, a legless point guard, errant shooting off-guard and a wildman who changed his name to World Peace for gosh sakes.
Coach Brown came to L.A. with stars in his eyes and he expected stars on the court.
He thought he had a masterful owner behind him and instead got the son-of-an-owner who doesn't have a clue about how to run a team.
You remember Coach Brown, dontcha? He's the one who took Lebron to the Finals only to see LeBron take him to the cleaners.
Before the season even started, Brown lost the Sixth Man of the Year and the rights to the best point guard this side of Cousy. He got manhandled by the Commish and he must have been thinking, "Where the heck am I, Cleveland?"
So, the season opens and he is stuck with a galoot named McBob, a washed up Kapono and some dude named Troy.
In the first game, it actually looked like he had turned a miracle. Leading the Bulls by eight with 2 minutes to go everyone watching and playing (except a guard named Rose) thought the game was in the bag.
Then the Lakers folded. As they were lost and befuddled, the heir-apparent Bulls took over. The Lakers looked like they were standing still.
OK, it has only been two games and their center, Andrew Bynum, hasn't played yet. But they have not improved their guard play nor their bench and they are an old team. In this league with guys flying all over the court, being old and slow is no way to win.
Put that against some really tough competition like Wade, Bosh and Lebron or Stoudemire , Chandler and Carmelo and it will not be pretty.
No, Coach Brown you have not landed in L.A. In fact, your plane never left Cleveland.
