College Bowl Picks: Why the SEC Will Go Undefeated in Bowl Games
If you take a poll among college football fans as to which conference is the best in college football, you are going to get a lot of votes for the South Eastern Conference.
This year, they have an impressive eight bowl games total. While running the table would seem to be an impossible feat, the SEC will come away in each game with a convincing victory.
In every one of their bowl games, the SEC team is favored by oddsmakers.
From the -1.5 point favorite of Vanderbilt over Cincinnati in the Auto Zone Liberty Bowl to the -7.5 point favorite of Arkansas over Kansas State, the SEC is picked to dominate the inferior competition that is put in front of them.
In the majority of these bowl games, you can see that the SEC team has the advantage in either the average points per game, or in points against per game.
While the points per game is an impressive stat, a majority of these SEC teams have swept through their non-conference schedule only to lose all of their games against the superior talent in the SEC.
There are some teams that have already been demolished by an SEC team this year.
The Cincinnati Bearcats were throttled by a Tennessee Volunteers team that didn’t even make a bowl game, 45-23. The Cincinnati defense was ripped for 531 yards, with 405 of them coming from the passing game and 126 from the rushing game.
Wake Forest was throttled in their final game by Vanderbilt.
The Commodores ran all over the Wake Forest’s defense, scoring three times while rushing for 297 yards on 55 attempts.
This bodes well for a Mississippi State team that ranked 45th in the NCAA in rushing yards per game with 169 yards per game.
Those are just two games where the SEC team has could slip up and ruin the conference’s chances at going perfect in bowl games.
However, with the failures of their opponents against other SEC teams this year, they will fail again to break the SEC from sweeping their competition in their bowl games.
The only way the SEC will lose in this bowl season is by playing each other in the BCS National Championship game.
