Richard Hamilton Will Be Little to No Help to Rose and the Chicago Bulls

Joshua CarrollDec 27, 2011

All summer and throughout the lockout you've heard about Derrick Rose needing more help to carry the scoring burden.

Now that the Bulls have one game underneath their belt, I have come to the conclusion that despite the upgrade at the shooting guard position, Richard Hamilton will serve as little to no help to Derrick Rose and the Bulls organization.

This is not a knock against Richard Hamilton and the deadly mid-range jumper he keeps at his disposal. I just feel as though Derrick Rose does not posses the patience to sit at the top of the key and let Hamilton run off three picks before he is finally open.

Clearly, that is not how the Bulls offense operates.

Rose did play much more passively against the Lakers in their season opener on Christmas than he played last year throughout the season and in the playoffs, but I do not believe he will be playing like that for much longer.

He may feel as though he has more help surrounding him, but he should not take his foot off the pedal or play any less aggressive than he did last year when he put up MVP numbers.

The truth of the matter is that when the Bulls are playing elite teams such as the Heat, Lakers, Thunder, Knicks and Celtics, Ronnie Brewer will be getting much more playing time than Hamilton due to the defense he plays on some of the best guards in the league.

As we know, Hamilton is not exactly your defensive specialist.

Sure, he will knock down an open jumper from time to time, but Hamilton will not be on the Bulls what he was on the Pistons.

With the lineup of Rose, Brewer, Deng, Boozer and Noah, there are not a lot of points spread across the board and Rose needs to recognize that sooner or later.

Look for Rose to get back to his aggressive style of play sooner rather than later. The Bulls cannot consistently win with him putting up one shot in the first quarter the way he did against the Lakers.
