Lamar vs. Kentucky: TV Schedule, Live Stream, Spread Info and More

Brian MaziqueDec 27, 2011

The No. 3-ranked Kentucky Wildcats host the Lamar Cardinals in what should prove to be another wipe out in favor of the Kentucky. The Wildcats have one last tune up before they take on the No. 4-ranked Louisville Cardinals on New Year's Eve.

The Cardinals will try to keep it close as they continue their ambitious out-of-conference schedule. They have already lost by 20 points to both Louisville and Ohio State. They will try to keep this one close, but Kentucky has been rolling over competition in the same class as Lamar. They have won their last three games by at least 25 points. Kentucky will be trying to extend their home win streak to 43 games.

What's At Stake?

The Wildcats' home win streak, but barely. Lamar is the best of the cupcakes the Wildcats have scheduled as tune ups for Louisville, but they don't have the athletes to compete with Kentucky, especially at home.

What They're Saying

A Kentucky blogger known as "Lwcat" had this spirited intro to his preview of the matchup:

"

It will be interesting to see Pat Knight, Bob Knight’s son, bring his Lamar team into Rupp arena….particulary since Bob Knight has essentially hated anything to do with UK going all the way back to Rupp. We all remember Knight making out and out lies regarding last season’s UK basketball team academics and was forced to make a half hearted apology. Pat followed his Dad as coach at Texas Tech and was a failure….it is likely that this might be Pat Knight’s last chance to prove he can be an effective HC."

"

Tell 'em how you really feel, man. It is obvious the Bob Knight ties makes this one important to the Kentucky faithful.

KFDM.com from Beaumont, TX offered this observation of Lamar's recent battles with ranked teams:

"

Following its loss to the Buckeyes, Lamar is now 5-37 all-time against teams ranked in the AP Top 25. The Cards last win over a ranked team came on Jan. 26, 1985, by a 72-64 score over No. 12 Louisiana Tech.

"

Kentucky Player To Watch: Darius Miller

The senior Miller has been very consistent playing in place of Terrance Jones. He has tallied 13, 12 and 17-point performances in the All-American's absence.

He'll likely have another strong performance.

Lamar Player To Watch: Anthony Miles

The senior guard is leading the team with 15.1 points per game. He is quick off the dribble and a capable three-point shooter. He will have his hands full with Doron Lamb and Marquis Teague.

Key Matchup

The smallish lineup from the Cardinals against the athletic Kentucky frontcourt. Anthony Davis leads the charge, as the Wildcats are devastating shot blockers. The Cardinals figure to have issues navigating the Wildcats bigs.

Prediction

Kentucky 79, Lamar 60

Lamar will keep the game from getting into the 30-point victory margin area, but the Wildcats will complete their tune-up before they battle Louisville.
