NFL Week 17 Picks: Tim Tebow and Broncos Will One Up Kyle Orton Again

Brian LendinoDec 27, 2011

The Tim Tebow saga continues on New Years Day as the Denver Broncos close out their regular season against the Kansas City Chiefs and what a ride it's been!

Over the course of the last 10 weeks we've been engulfed with "Tebow Mania" and how fitting for it to conclude with a showdown against the quarterback Tebow replaced, now playing for a division rival.

Kyle Orton's 2011 season has been up and down and for him there would be no sweeter feeling than shutting down his former team and potentially knocking them from postseason play.

If you're tabbing this game as Tebow vs. Orton, here are your five reasons why Tim Tebow will come out on top once again.

Playoff Implications

1 of 5

The Broncos are in the ideal playoff position and a win against Orton and the Chiefs ensures them their first division title since 2005.

Denver is in a bit of a slump as of late, dropping their last two games by a combined 44 points but with the playoffs on the line, we can expect Tebow and company to come out inspired.

The last time the two teams met the Broncos won 17-10 in Tim Tebow's infamous two-completion win back in Week 10.

Game Played in Denver

2 of 5

Home field advantage means everything in late December and early January, even if it is still the regular season.

The Broncos have a 3-4 season record at home and would need a victory over the Chiefs to move to .500 and like I mentioned earlier—reach the playoffs.

I think that Tebow and the offense will feed off the electric Mile High crowd and come out and take it to the Chiefs from the opening kickoff.

Running Game

3 of 5

Tim Tebow mans the NFL's most dangerous rushing attack that has the ability to hit you with multiple punches.

What makes the Broncos running attack so potent is that they can run Willis McGahee between the 20's and then have the ability to run Tebow in the spread option in short yardage situations.

The last time the Broncos and Chiefs met, Denver's offense rushed for 244 yards and a seven-yard Tim Tebow touchdown run.

The Defense

4 of 5

Some could argue that during the Broncos' magical run in the middle of the season that the defense should receive the majority of the credit why the team was winning.

In games between Week 7 and Week 14 the Broncos defense held teams under 15 points on five different occasions.

Rookie Von Miller has played a huge role in the defensive success putting pressure on opposing quarterbacks.

Look for Denver's defense to turn Kansas City over and capitalize on their mistakes.

Kyle Orton's Return

5 of 5

Kyle Orton has done some nice things in his two starts as Kansas City's quarterback, including a monumental win over the Green Bay Packers in Week 15.

In the final game of the 2011 regular season, Kyle Orton will return to Denver to face the team that he played for earlier this season.

Orton will struggle in this game facing heavy pressure from the Broncos defense. He'll be forced into uncomfortable situations and turn the ball over.

I don't foresee a happy homecoming for the former Broncos' quarterback.
