Rose Bowl 2012: Oregon Ducks Sport Killer New Uniforms for Prime Time Matchup

Alex KayDec 27, 2011

Nike Pro Combat Uniforms and the Oregon Ducks have teamed up yet again, and we will be seeing some awesome new gear in the Rose Bowl.

Nike has long been in cahoots with the Ducks because co-founder and chairman Phil Knight received his undergraduate education at the school.

Now he is giving back by constantly outfitting his alma mater’s football program in the finest and flashiest uniforms on the planet.

The Ducks are certainly going to look intimidating when they face the high-powered Wisconsin Badgers on January 2 and are hoping these uniforms strike fear in the heart of their opponent.

Check out the armored wing design that will go under the shoulder pads and the liquid black metal finish on the helmets. The company also used “Chain Maille Mesh” to cover the back, arms and sides of the jersey to give an extremely formidable appearance.

These uniforms just as practical as they are scary.

Nike tailored the padding and uniform to be close fitting, reducing the chances of a defender latching on and making a tackle by grabbing the material and not the man.

It’s said to be incredibly breathable and lightweight as well, allowing the speedy Ducks to maximize their strength on the field and outrun and chase down the pesky Badgers.

The numbers are also really cool as well.

They are designed to shift as they move, going from a darker top portion down to a lighter bottom and represent “sheen on a Mallard’s feathers.”

Nike is hoping that these new uniforms catch on and, as usual, they are using the University of Oregon to show them off first.

"

“Oregon represents the gold-standard when it comes to merging science and innovation with athletic performance and we are excited to continue our partnership with Nike by unveiling the next iteration in uniform innovation for the Rose Bowl” said Chip Kelly. “Nike always starts by listening to the voice of the athlete as they continue to bring the most intuitive technology to the game.”

"

They certainly made some awesome uniforms, and the Ducks are hoping that the science involved in them helps them capture the Rose Bowl crown.
