NBA Rumors: Jeremy Lin and Top Choices to Replace Iman Shumpert for Knicks

Update: Tuesday, Dec. 27 at 10:20 a.m. EDT

The New York Knicks have claimed Jeremy Lin off waivers according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

This move was expected and has addressed the team's most pressing need over the next two weeks to a month.

Lin will most likely see the court for at least a few minutes per game until Shumpert is back and then the Knicks have a decision to make on his non-gauranteed contract

The New York Knicks need to address the glaring lack of depth they have at the point guard position now that Iman Shumpert is out two-to-four weeks with a sprained MCL.

Against the Celtics in the season opener, the Knicks were forced to play Toney Douglas for extended stretches at the point and the man simply isn’t a true passer or ball handler.

If anything, he’s a glorified 2-guard playing out of position on a team that can hide his flaws because of the superstardom of Carmelo Anthony and Amar’e Stoudemire.

They got lucky and managed to pull out a win without the depth, but they can’t expect the same results night-after-night.

Even their coach knows it.

"

"When you've got [four] point guards, two are questionable, one's out and one's hurt, and you start thinking 'uh oh, maybe we have to do something,” Knicks coach Mike D'Antoni said Monday.  He added that general manager Glen Grunwald is looking acquiring another guard.

"

Here are two solid options that the Grunwald should have on his radar and either of them would address their glaring hole at point.

Jeremy Lin

The 2010 summer-league superstar hasn’t seen much NBA action and was waived by the Warriors to make an offer-sheet to DeAndre Jordan legal under the cap.

He’s still a serviceable point guard who was a college star and has professional experience under his belt.

Expect the Knicks to make a run at him along with the Warriors, as both teams need some insurance at point guard this year.

Perhaps Arenas is past his prime and thought of as too much of a head case to be worth signing by many NBA teams.

New York should take a chance on him anyway.

Since being cut loose by the amnesty clause, the man formerly known as Agent Zero is a free agent that can sign wherever he chooses.

He’s easily the most talented player left in free agency and can still fill it up while distributing at a high-level, given the chance.

At a veteran’s minimum price tag, Gilbert is worth the risk.
