Kirk Ferentz Takes Iowa Hawkeyes' Embarrassing Season to Disgusting New Level

Eric BowmanDec 27, 2011

It's been a rough season for Iowa Hawkeyes head coach Kirk Ferentz, which is why he tried to make a joke to lighten the mood some, but it failed miserably.

During a press conference before the Hawkeyes' Insight Bowl game against the Oklahoma Sooners, Ferentz was asked a series of questions pertaining to different rumors about him and his players.

These kinds of things can really get to a coach, as they just want to talk about the upcoming game. Unfortunately, that doesn't always happen, especially when your team is having to suspend players and there's talk about the head coaching possibly leaving.

So Ferentz got a bit defensive after so many irritating questions. Instead of shouting or anything like that, Ferentz took a more disturbing route. Or rather, kind of childish, if you will.

According to The Gazette, Ferentz joked that he passes gas on the practice field.

“Did you guys catch that one?” Ferentz joked. “I’ll see if I can muster one up for you right now.”

Really? I mean, come on coach. There's a time and place for that, but not during a press conference. What are you, 12?

It's one thing to discuss what he does or doesn't do on the practice field, but trying to "muster one up" during a press conference is taking things too far.

At 7-5, the Hawkeyes' season didn't go as planned. They still get to play postseason football, but their coach didn't make things easy on them with this one.

Iowa is now an easy target for opposing teams and fans. Heck, even the Hawkeyes' own fans might make fun of them.

Fart jokes are meant for privacy, or not at all if one is truly disgusted by them. It can be funny to young children and adolescents or even the elderly.

However, it's not appropriate when out in public, but Ferentz went with it anyway. There wasn't a single soul in that room that wished he would "muster one up" at that moment.

And if there was, that person needs help.

There may have been some laughs or a faint chuckle here or there, but everyone had to be thinking, "what in the world did he just say?"

This isn't the sixth grade, Ferentz.

No matter the outcome of Friday's Insight Bowl, the Hawkeyes are doomed either way, because now they've become the butt of all jokes, so to speak.
