2011 Bowl Schedule: Michigan State and Teams That Got Raw Deals

Gabe ZaldivarDec 26, 2011

Depending on your allegiance, you may be shaking your head with the thought that Michigan State should be playing for roses. They join some other bowl teams that are getting hit with some awful news in one form or another this season.

Allow us to only slightly punch a dead horse when we mention that the college football season is only really good for tumult and controversy. There are a couple of teams that have some tremendous gripes about where they currently sit in the eyes of the BCS and bowl committees.

Here is a brief rundown on such teams that are crying foul, but will suit up and play the games they are scheduled for anyway. The only way to get your point across in this sport is to put the hurt on the next team that stands in your way.

Michigan State Spartans

Michigan State really has no right to hem and haw when you consider their fate was largely in their hands. All they needed to do was beat Wisconsin in the Big Ten championship game.

The vitriol comes from the fact that the Spartans still own the best record in the conference, and this was the first championship game for the Big Ten. Talk about your bad timing moments.

So a team that really should be playing for roses is stuck playing in a lesser Outback Bowl against Georgia. The only way I keep up the argument for the Spartans is if they lay a hurt on the Bulldogs, showing us all the bowls had it wrong.

Oklahoma State Cowboys

You just knew they would show up in this article. The Cowboys did everything that was asked of them and still got the short end of it.

Alabama was far more beloved by voters, so a team that already had their chance at drawing LSU blood gets another. And for Oklahoma State, they are forced to enjoy the Fiesta Bowl rather than get a chance at ultimate victory like they deserve. Someone say playoff?

LSU Tigers

I know what you are thinking, but they are playing in the best game of the year for all the marbles. Yes, but they have to face an Alabama squad that lost fair and square.

This is just silly. LSU now has to beat Alabama in ridiculous two out of three scenario while Alabama gets one more chance at ultimate glory. This just doesn't sit right.
