UFC: 5 Reasons Fans Love to Hate Brock Lesnar
There are many reasons why Brock Lesnar is the UFC's most hated fighter.
His outspoken, hard-nosed, grizzled attitude often expels the ordinary characteristics of a professional MMA fighter.
Lesnar says what's on his mind, never backs down in the media and neglects to respect the historic accomplishments of his often legendary opponents.
Time in and time out, fans refuse to accept Lesnar for what he is.ย A dynamic character who possesses the drive and sheer athleticism to do nearly anything he wants to in sports.
While that notion often impedes the respect he's given as a UFC heavyweight title contender, Lesnar is still beloved by fans across the world.
Here are five reasons why fans love to hate Lesnar and his lumberjack-esque personality.
5. The Hype
1 of 5Brock Lesnar's debut in the UFC brought more hype to a single fighter than ever before.
What else could be more exciting and promising than witnessing a WWE champion take his chances inside the Octagon?
Nothing.ย And that's why his hype coming into the sport of MMA bolstered so much attention.
Some fans remember that time as a "mockery" of the UFC.ย To sign a professional wrestler with Lesnar's outspoken trash-talking and dominant persona, Dana White and company must of been crazy.
On the contrary.ย White and the UFC handled the situation to a tee, using Lesnar as an immediate selling point for the sport, attracting new fans that may or may not have been already WWE followers.
So it's easy to see how diehard MMA fans would look at Lesnar's initial hype through a negative perspective, but the fact of the matter is that that hype actually led to more exposure for the UFC in American sports.
And for that, fans love Lesnar.
4. WWE Background
2 of 5One of the most disliked aspects of Brock Lesnar, the MMA fighter, is the fact that he started out in the WWE.
Whenever your profession incorporates talking trash to Stone Cold Steve Austin and arguing with Vince McMahon, your credibility in an outlet like the UFC will no doubt be called into question.
Many fans still hold a grudge toward Lesnar because he once made millions of dollars by power-bombing The Undertaker and throwing no-name pipsqueaks over the top rope.
Regardless, that part of his professional career still fascinates even the most viral Lesnar haters.
I know for me, I'm still intrigued to see whether or not Lesnar snaps in the Octagon and ultimately decides to DDT someone.
3. MMA Inexperience
3 of 5Whenever Lesnar's rank among MMA's best heavyweights is called into question, people will always point to his inexperience as an immediate downfall.
With only seven career bouts, Lesnar's 5-2 record often results in some unneeded hatred.
People will always question the motives of the UFC to put an inexperienced fighter in high-profile bouts compared to other guys who have done more for the sport.
But despite these misunderstandings and inabilities to accept Lesnar as a perennial championship contender, fans still love to see him fight.
Why, you ask?
Because no matter what fights he adds to his resume, nothing is more exciting than seeing a guy with his size and athleticism take on some of the best mixed martial artists in the world.
2. Fast Climb to Stardom
4 of 5Some people simply can't accept that Brock Lesnar is as good as he is.
But can we blame these consistent haters?
Honestly, not really.ย It's still hard to determine exactly how good Lesnar is within MMA's biggest industry.
His lack of experience, quick climb up the heavyweight ladder and even quicker downfall to Cain Velasquez has left many many wondering if Lesnar is in fact "the real deal."
But despite initial concerns about Lesnar's skill set inside the cage, his MMA stardom still reigns true.
And while he often supersedes the rest of the UFC's fighters and capitalizes on more publicity than the next guy, Lesnar's mass appeal and quick emergence in the sport is more loved than hated.
1. Trash-Talking
5 of 5There's nothing better than hating on fighters who talk trash.
Well maybe seeing them fail, but besides that, nothing beats it.
Hence the popularity of "MMA Bad Guys" like Chael Sonnen, Rashad Evans and Michael Bisping (who all happen to be fighting at UFC on FOX 2).ย These guys are important to the sport.
Their outgoing comments, interviews and trash-talking, along with the hatred that fans have for those things, allows the sport to transcend normalcy.
But beyond these three guys, is there any fighter who possesses a "Don't Take Nothing" mentality more than Brock Lesnar?
Not really.ย And that's what makes Lesnar the fighter he is today.ย Fans love to hate this guy.ย
From his Octagon fingering to his "Do you see me now?" comments, Lesnar's personality allows fans to interact with the UFC on an entirely different level.
Quite frankly, besides the awesome in-fight action, the sport of MMA needs bad guys like Brock.ย And for that, fans will continue to express interest and Octagon fellowship for Lesnar.
