2012 NFL Draft Order: Indianapolis Colts and Teams in Ideal Situations
The 2012 NFL draft may seem a long way off, but team management has been thinking about it all season and now as the season comes to a close for many of the teams picking high in the draft, it’s crunch time.
Teams like the Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Rams will get great players at No. 1 and No. 2, but it's teams like Cleveland at No. 6 that may get the best player out of this draft.
All of the following teams are in an ideal spot for this draft and it’s a matter of time before the rebuilding process is up and rolling.
Indianapolis Colts
With the inevitable No. 1 spot in the draft, the Indianapolis Colts would be fools to not take Andrew Luck out of Stanford.
With Peyton Manning coming back next season from his neck surgery, Luck can spend a season or two learning under the future Hall of Famer while the team figures out what to do with Manning.
Taking anyone else at No. 1 or trading away this pick would be the wrong move for any franchise, but it would hurt the Colts more than anyone else.
St. Louis Rams
The St. Louis Rams need to get their prized franchise quarterback Sam Bradford some real weapons in the passing game. That’s where Justin Blackmon comes in.
Blackmon is the kind of possession receiver that Bradford needs to be successful in Josh McDaniels' offensive system.
Essentially, Bradford would be getting the equivalent of what Brandon Marshall was to the Broncos during his tenure in Denver. That’s a big addition.
Cleveland Browns
The Cleveland Browns made it blatantly obvious that they do not want Peyton Hillis back, so drafting stud Alabama running back Trent Richardson at No. 6 is the perfect pick.
Richardson could be the strong run game the Browns need to run a successful west coast offense with Colt McCoy under center.
If Richardson falls to the Browns and they did not re-sign Peyton Hillis, they will draft Richardson and turn him into a star.
