Kobe Bryant: Mike Brown Right to Question Laker Legend
There may be trouble in paradise already as Los Angeles Lakers new head coach Mike Brown called out Kobe Bryant for making the wrong play at the end of the team’s 88-87 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Sunday.
"The ball went to the right player's hands. I'm not sure. I have not asked him why he jumped to make the pass. But, yeah, we would have liked for him to hold on to it, and then for them to foul him.
"
After coaching legend Phil Jackson retired this offseason, there were questions about who the Lakers would get to control the ego of Kobe Bryant. They chose Brown because he helped control LeBron James for several years in Cleveland, but this experiment may already be blowing up.
Brown was known as a pushover in his time with the Cavaliers, with management showing a clear allegiance with the star player instead of the coach. This is Brown telling it how it is and making all of his players responsible for their actions.
This coach has to earn the respect of a veteran group of players and there is no better way to assert his dominance than by calling out the biggest dog on the block.
Kobe will be distracted this season with all of the off the court drama unfolding, so the ability of Brown to keep him involved is key to the team’s success. If that means calling Kobe out publically to get him mad, then so be it.
As long as they start winning games, how he handles the players can all be ironed out. It was the man’s first game as a Lakers head coach.
