Tony Romo Injury: The Latest Update for Cowboys QB Prior to Key Game vs. Giants

John RozumDec 26, 2011

According to Ed Werder of ESPN, it appears that the Dallas Cowboys are sticking with QB Tony Romo:

"

"The Dallas Cowboys have decided not to pursue signing a veteran quarterback at this time, a team source said -- a strong indication that the team believes Tony Romo should be capable of both starting and throwing effectively against the New York Giants on Sunday night"

"

To enhance the level of optimism for Cowboys fans, Clarence Hill of The Fort Worth Star-Telegram quotes Romo on his status:

"

"I'll be fine," Romo said. "I think I just took a hit to the helmet. We're going to be all right, though. I'll be good to go next week."

"

Hill then quote team owner Jerry Jones later in the article:

"

"We have every reason [to think he'll be OK]," Jones said. "Our people have encouraged us, and he has a history of playing with something that the doctors will let him go on. I feel like we dodged a bullet."

"

So, unless Tony Romo is wearing a ballcap and sweatpants on Sunday evening in The Big Apple, expect him to be suiting up. Then again, an injured Tony Romo gives the Cowboys a much better chance still, than a healthy Stephen McGee.

In this game however, expect the Giants to relentlessly blitz Romo and force him to throw a lot earlier than he wants to. Obviously this is a good blueprint for disrupting the timing of any QB and his WRs however, when the man is playing but not appearing to be 100 percent, you attack him.

Exploiting your opponent is what must be done however, Romo's played hurt so many times before that this won't affect him much.

Not to mention the winner clinches the NFC East and a playoff berth, so much is at stake. As for Romo, he's been carrying the team and has played consistently well all year. With 29 TDs to just nine picks, almost 3,900 yards, and a 102.2 rating, Romo has proved his worth in 2011.

Add in the scattered injuries to his receiving core and RBs and the fact that Romo has kept Dallas in this position is quite impressive.

That being said, for a team with much inconsistency but is still alive for the postseason, it would be shocking not to see Tony Romo under center on Sunday night.
