Brandon Jacobs Disrespects Rex Ryan Postgame: Pot Calling the Kettle Black?

Brett StephenDec 25, 2011

In the battle for supremacy in the Big Apple, the New York Giants topped the New York Jets, but Giants running back Brandon Jacobs wasn’t satisfied with the win and had to throw fuel on the New York fire with some parting words for Jets head coach Rex Ryan.

As the game ended and the teams came onto the field for some postgame handshakes, Jacobs sought out Ryan and exchanged some “disrespectful” comments.

Everyone knows that Ryan can be brash and make comments before games that tend to rub the other team the wrong way, but Jacobs took exception to it this time.

In what Jets linebacker Bart Scott called “the pot calling the kettle black,” Jacobs said that Ryan has a “big mouth and big belly” and that the Jets should be doing their talking with their play rather than their mouths.

It is indeed the pot calling the kettle black, as Jacobs, a running back that is more hype than success, is notorious for trash talk and taunting.

Jacobs has had success as a complementary back in New York but has never had sustained success on his own.  He has definitely not done enough to warrant talking trash.

He is the second-string running back on an 8-7 team and has only 555 yards and seven touchdowns.

He is the 37th-ranked running back in both total yards and yards per game—hardly statistics that enable a guy to talk trash.

Jacobs needs to grow up, understand his place and just play football.
