Philadelphia Eagles vs. Dallas Cowboys: Key Halftime Stats for the Cowboys

Joseph MerkelDec 24, 2011

Tony Romo is likely out for the game with a right hand contusion, but it's going to have it happen, this is the game for it. Today's week 16 matchup is now basically meaningless after the Giants put a hurt on Jets in the early game.

With a win over New York next week, the 'Boys would net the NFC East crown regardless of today's outcome. So Romo should have been on the bench.

The Cowboys' now have a chance to at least see what they have in quarterback Stephen McGee, their fourth-round pick in the 2009 draft. Let's take a look at some key stats from the first half of the game.

While the playbook hasn't been busted open quite yet, Stephen McGee has been very impressive in limited action today. Since Romo's exit, we've seen a few Romo-esque plays, including a rollout to the right, in which he took a huge hit but picked up a first, and a shovel pass as he evaded the Eagles' pass-rush.

~3.1 YPC

Sammy Morris and Felix Jones have combined to average about 3.1 yards per carry. While Felix Jones should not be playing in this game because of nagging injuries, it would be nice if Morris was a little more effective.  He could be a major factor in the playoffs, so he needs to step his game up.

5-42

The Cowboys have committed five penalties for 42 yards, the most recent being completely unnecessary. Anthony Spencer torpedoed himself into Jeremy Maclin, who was already on the ground. An easy call for the refs, the penalty led to a 15-yard add-on. But luckily Jason Avant later fumbled the ball out of the end zone to give the ball back to Dallas.

The Eagles have zero sacks this half but four QB hits. The offensive line is dealing with a tough matchup with Trent Cole and Jason Babin rushing the passer, but they have to do a better job at protecting their quarterbacks while they still have one upright.
