Cam Newton Video: Watch Panthers' Phenom Throw Longest TD in Franchise History
If Cam Newton's Offensive Rookie of the Year campaign needed any help, he just got it. It started off innocent looking enough, with a nice pass play from Newton to Brandon LaFell.
But once LaFell's speed and the Buccaneers' stellar defense took over, Newton had 91 more yards and a touchdown pass to add to his resume. With it, he earned a Carolina Panthers franchise record for longest pass. By the time his career is over, Newton will have a few of those.
In the same game, he broke Peyton Manning's rookie passing record.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
This play has a lot of factors to it. Of course Newton and LaFell have a lot of responsibility for this. Newton made a great pass to an open receiver.
But how was a receiver that open with no protection behind him? The responsibility for that lies solely on the opposing defense. Something has happened to the Buccaneers and their defense this year that can't be defined. They are just terrible.
But let's focus on the positive here. Newton is rewriting the rookie record book with every throw now. His numbers at the end of this season are going to be phenomenal. We know that he can run. Newton already has the record for most rushing touchdowns for a quarterback in a season.
There is no 5-9 team that's more fun to watch than the Panthers, and that's because of Newton and his constant assault of the record books.
