Tim Tebow: How Broncos QB Is More Luck Than Magic

Austin GreenDec 24, 2011

Tim Tebow has been magical at times this season, but the young quarterback has also been lucky enough to play a soft schedule.

When talking about Tebow, fans and analysts are quick to gush over his late-game heroics.

Rarely, however, is the other team's quarterback discussed.

The Broncos are 7-2 with Tebow under center, and that's just great. But it's not too hard to rack up wins when the other team starts Matt Moore, Carson Palmer, Matt Cassel, Mark Sanchez, Phillip Rivers, Christian Ponder or Caleb Hanie.

Denver has only played two quality quarterbacks since Tebow became the starter. The results weren't pretty.

Matthew Stafford dropped 45 points on them in Week 8 and Tom Brady shredded them for 320 yards and two touchdowns last Sunday. Tebow has had two chances to show that he can keep up with an elite quarterback and he's failed both times.

Luckily for him and the Broncos, he won't have to square off against another good quarterback in Denver's quest for the AFC West title.

This week, his counterpart is Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has led his team to seven straight losses. In Week 17, Tebow can clinch a playoff berth for his team if he somehow manages to outduel either Kyle Orton or Tyler Palko of Kansas City.

Tebow has built up a cult-like following during his short time in the NFL, and most of the props are deserved. Just don't forget who he's playing against.

Tebow may be as good as his "Mile High Messiah" nickname suggests, but let's see him beat a quality quarterback before we hand him the crown.
