WWE Smackdown Results: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

Justin WatryDec 23, 2011

WWE Smackdown was a good show tonight. It did not feature any "must-see" segments, but it was a decent two-hour program. The Blue Brand has come through all year, and it is still proving so on December 23, 2011.

The Good

I really liked Cody Rhodes vs. Zack Ryder. Cody looked like a star, while Zack was about as serious as possible. He still has his phone with him during his entrance, but that can go away in the future.

The Booker T song was not needed, but his distraction forcing Rhodes to lose was fun. Great segment from everybody, and I like the continuation of the Intercontinental title feud on Smackdown.

This was a great night for David Otunga! The man is not on a lot, but he always is perfect in his role. He gets "it," and has improved a ton. Keep it up, sir.

The backstage segments with Teddy Long were just good television. Santino is funny more often than not. Dolph Ziggler and Miz can talk, while Aksana and Vickie looked phenomenal.

Speaking of The Miz, I enjoyed his match against Sheamus. It was a little short, but that is fine. I have said it a million times, but I'll say it again:  Sheamus just needs to keep winning.

There is no reason to have him in a feud right now with the Rumble coming up.

He needs to keep looking strong. His future is bright. The Miz will always be able to talk his way back into the main event scene, and he can "go" in the ring as well! Another good segment for Smackdown.

Wade Barrett is another guy who can just flat out talk. His promo was nicely done, and he continues his great run of wanting to get back to the top. Randy Orton brawling with him all over the arena was "different," and I could see this being the end for these two.

Both could easily be in the title picture going forward, so it will be interesting where each man goes heading into 2012.

Primo losing to Kofi was another short match, but I liked it. Why? Rosa Mendes. I have no interest with what was going on in the ring. Rosa steals the spotlight every time she appears.

For that alone, this segment was excellent!

The final thirty minutes were very entertaining. I could have done without the match change (I will count it all as one match), but it worked out fine. Bryan picks up another win, and the heels lose.

Perfect way to head into the holidays for the WWE Universe!

The Bad

The opening segment of the night was not very good. I am sorry, but a few things stood out to me.

First, Bryan was the weakest of the three on the mic. Deny it all you want, but his speaking skills must improve. Maybe not now. Maybe not next month. But eventually, they do.

Second, the entire "face/heel/tweener" dynamic was messed up. Is Big Show heading for a turn? Was Mark Henry actually sounding like the honest one here? Why did Daniel Bryan go for a handshake, go back on it, then laugh?

As I said weeks ago, Bryan has been "booked" horribly for the past two months. This opening segment was more of the same. Keep him as a face or turn him. Nothing in the middle!

Finally, Bryan needs to act like a champion. Do not come out and call Big Show the World's "Tallest" Athlete. Do not say you aren't big, can't talk, or look like a WWE Superstar. That is not very reassuring. Yeah, he can wrestle. We know that, but you don't need to point out your other dozen weaknesses.

Show off the positives, ignore the negatives, right?

The Ugly

Mark Henry needs to get off WWE TV! The man clearly can't compete right now, so why is he out there ready to go? Announcing him vs. Show, then taking it away was a waste of time. Just let the man heal up and bring him back when he is healthy.

My only "conspiracy theory" is they want him to remain on TV to keep the Smackdown ratings up. They skyrocketed when he became champion, and they may not trust Bryan on top. That is my only guess. Other than that, I have no idea why Henry is not at home resting.

Safety comes first!

As you can see, I really liked this episode. The two hours went by pretty fast, and WWE has left fans with a great feeling heading into the holidays. Did you folks agree? Disagree? Let me know.
