WWE: How Kane Can Help John Cena Regain His Popularity

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 24, 2011

Kane has returned to WWE and he has set his sights firmly on the leader of the Cenation. When he first came back many people assumed he would target the man who put him on the shelf, Mark Henry, but he has different priorities it would seem.

Kane's return was hyped through weeks of well-produced video packages which showed him donning a mask once again. This got the IWC talking about if he would actually have it when he returned.

When Kane came out a couple weeks ago he was wearing what resembled a cross between a welder's mask and a goalie's mask in hockey.

He removed it to show a mask similar to the one he used to wear, but with a slightly different look. The next week he repeated the pattern and attacked Cena yet again, this time smothering him with his giant hand until Cena was out cold.

This kind of domination over Cena is not only rare, but it is interesting. To see the WWE's golden boy look scared when Kane came down the ramp is a great way to show what kind of fear Kane can put in someone.

This feud can end up benefiting both men if executed right. This could also be a chance for Cena to gain back some of the fans who he has lost over the years.

By always being the Superman-type wrestler Cena has effectively made it so he can never be an underdog, no matter what odds he is up against.

Take when he and Orton faced the entire RAW roster for example, how many people did they easily eliminate before it broke out into all-out mayhem?

This could be WWE trying to give Cena a chance to once again be the person people want to root for. While Kane has his devoted followers, he is clearly being portrayed as the heel here.

I am a fan of Kane as a dominant monster, and I think if this feud is pushed through Elimination Chamber then Cena could end up with a few more fans than he would have had going into his match with The Rock.

Kane is a reliable and effective performer who is willing to put others over, this combined with his great gimmick makes him very valuable to WWE.

He went so long without a World Title in WWE, and never once left for what people would call greener pastures. He stuck it out and because of that WWE has given him another chance to be a monster heel who destroys the competition.

The way I would like to see this feud play out is Kane beating Cena at the Royal Rumble, and possibly a couple times on RAW, making Cena seem more like the underdog.

Then at Elimination Chamber, Cena gets the win and goes into 'Mania against The Rock looking stronger than he has in a long time.

There is an old saying that goes, "In order to build something up, you must first break it down," and I believe that applies perfectly to Cena.

WWE did such a good job of pushing him for so long that it eventually back fired on them when fans felt they had been fed one too many servings of Cena.

These past couple weeks we have seen a reduced amount of Cena on camera and I think that will work to Cena's benefit in the long run.

Now, CM Punk is in the spotlight on RAW and Cena is taking a backseat to the young talent like Miz and Alberto Del Rio who are pursuing the title.

This will not last forever, but between now and WrestleMania, I think WWE should have Cena focus on Kane and make that feud the best they can.

I am a supporter of both Kane and Cena for several reasons, but I get people's frustration with Cena and I think this could be a great opportunity to turn him back into the popularity powerhouse he was in 2007.

What do you think, can Kane help Cena regain some of his popularity?
