Full Statistical Projections for All 30 NBA 1st-Round Draft Picks

Matt ShetlerDec 26, 2011

One of the dilemmas entering every NBA season is how well each first-round pick will fare.

Did you favorite team draft a Carmelo Anthony or did they miss and select a Darko Milicic by mistake?

The truth is that no one really knows how each pick will fare until he's faced with playing against real NBA competition.

With that being said, here is a look at what type of statistical season each first-round pick is projected to have.

1. Kyrie Irving, Cleveland Cavaliers

1 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 15.3

Assists: 5.6

Rebounds: 3.1

Steals: 1.2

Blocks: 0.4

Irving is going to get his minutes and the production will be there. At the end of the day, he will have a solid rookie campaign.

2. Derrick Williams, Minnesota Timberwolves

2 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 14.5

Assists: 1.5

Rebounds: 7.5

Steals: 1.1

Blocks: 1.3

Unless Minnesota makes a deal, Williams is going to begin the season on the bench, but he will see valuable minutes at both the 3 and the 4 and will have a solid first season.

3. Enes Kanter, Utah Jazz

3 of 30

2012 Projections

Points:  8.1

Assists: 2.4

Rebounds: 8.5

Steals: 0.8

Blocks: 1.8

It's boom or bust for Kanter who may see a spike in minutes later in the season, depending on what Utah does at the trade deadline.

4. Tristan Thompson, Cleveland Cavaliers

4 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 7.2

Assists: 1.3

Rebounds: 6.9

Steals: 0.9

Blocks: 1.1

Thompson wasn't picked for this season and will need some time to develop his offensive game.

5. Jonas Valanciunas, Toronto Raptors

5 of 30

Currently not playing in the NBA.

6. Jan Vesely, Washington Wizards

6 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 7.7

Assists: 2.1

Rebounds: 4.5

Steals: 1.1

Blocks: 0.5

Vesely is a finisher and his stat line could increase with more minutes, but right now he's likely to get 20-25 per game.

7. Bismack Biyombo, Charlotte Bobcats

7 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 3.6

Assists: 1.1

Rebounds: 8.6

Steals: 0.5

Blocks: 1.8

Biyombo's offensive game is extremely raw, but he can make an impact right off the bat on defense and on the glass.

8. Brandon Knight, Detroit Pistons

8 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 9.1

Assists: 5.2

Rebounds: 2.0

Steals: 1.6

Blocks: 0.2

For now, expect Knight to get some work as a combo-guard, but he could become the primary point guard by the end of the season.

9. Kemba Walker, Charlotte Bobcats

9 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 15.2

Assists: 4.6

Rebounds: 2.5

Steals: 1.4

Blocks: 1.1

Charlotte's offense was very bad a season ago and Walker will be asked to help fix it right off the bat. He can fill it up and will have to on a nightly basis.

10. Jimmer Fredette, Sacramento Kings

10 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 17.5

Assists: 3.9

Rebounds: 3.1

Steals: 1.4

Blocks: 0.3

He won't score at the rate that he did at BYU, but he will lead all rookies in scoring.

11. Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors

11 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 7.2

Assists: 2.2

Rebounds: 3.5

Steals: 0.5

Blocks: 0.2

Thompson will come off the bench and provide some scoring for new Warriors coach Mark Jackson.

12. Alec Burks, Utah Jazz

12 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 6.5

Assists: 1.8

Rebounds: 2.6

Steals: 0.6

Blocks: 0.4

Minutes could be tough to come by initially for Burks, but he should get a good bit of run by the end of the season.

13. Markieff Morris, Phoenix Suns

13 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 12.5

Assists: 2.7

Rebounds: 8.1

Steals: 1.0

Blocks: 1.3

Morris will begin the season coming off the Suns' bench, but he won't be there for long. Especially if Channing Frye continues to struggle with his shot.

14. Marcus Morris, Houston Rockets

14 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 8.8

Assists: 3.9

Rebounds: 3.8

Steals: 1.1

Blocks: 0.7

Morris will get some time, as he can backup both Chase Budinger and Luis Scola at the 3 and 4 respectively. If one of them goes down, though, his production could increase dramatically.

15. Kawhi Leonard, San Antonio Spurs

15 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 7.7

Assists: 2.1

Rebounds: 4.1

Steals: 0.4

Blocks: 0.8

Leonard could eventually challenge Richard Jefferson for a starting spot in the Spurs' lineup, but for now, he will be coming off the bench. Naturally, if he ends up getting more minutes, his numbers would increase, but here are his projections based on about 20 minutes per game.

16. Nikola Vucevic, Philadelphia 76ers

16 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 8.3

Assists: 1.2

Rebounds: 3.5

Steals: 0.8

Blocks: 1.1

Doug Collins likes Vucevic and he could see about 25 minutes per game right from the start. Eventually, he could supplant Spencer Hawes as the starter, but for now, let's see how he does off the bench. His shooting should keep him in the regular rotation, if anything.

17. Iman Shumpert, New York Knicks

17 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 11.9

Assists: 3.2

Rebounds: 4.1

Steals: 1.5

Blocks: 0.2

Shumpert looks very comfortable in the Knicks offense, but let's see how he does recovering from an early knee injury. It could impact his numbers slightly.

18. Chris Singleton, Washington Wizards

18 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 4.1

Assists: 0.8

Rebounds: 3.3

Steals: 1.3

Blocks: 1.2

Singleton could make an impact on the defensive end of the floor, but his offensive game needs a ton of work, so there could be very few minutes for him considering the Wizards are deep at the forward position.

19. Tobias Harris, Milwaukee Bucks

19 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 5.1

Assists: 1.3

Rebounds: 3.6

Steals: 0.8

Blocks: 0.2

Harris has some catching up to do after being hospitalized with dehydration. Don't expect too much from him this season, but he could work his way into regular minutes after a while.

20. Donatas Motiejunas, Houston Rockets

20 of 30

Currently not playing in the NBA this season.

21. Nolan Smith, Portland Trail Blazers

21 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 7.3

Assists: 5.6

Rebounds: 2.4

Steals: 1.4

Blocks: 0.4

Smith will get some time as the backup point guard in Portland and should put together a solid rookie season.

22. Kenneth Faried, Denver Nuggets

22 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 2.6

Assists: 0.7

Rebounds: 2.9

Steals: 0.4

Blocks: 0.5

Denver's re-signing of Nene means Faried will likely be buried on the Nuggets' bench for most of the season.

23. Nikola Mirotic, Chicago Bulls

23 of 30

Currently not playing in the NBA.

24. Reggie Jackson, Oklahoma City Thunder

24 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 1.3

Assists: 1.8

Rebounds: 1.1

Steals: 0.3

Blocks:0.1

Baring injury, it will be very tough for Jackson to get off the Oklahoma City bench this season.

25. MarShon Brooks, New Jersey Nets

25 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 10.3

Assists: 3.4

Rebounds: 2.6

Steals: 1.2

Blocks: 0.3

Brooks can score and will get plenty of opportunity to do so in New Jersey.

26. Jordan Hamilton, Denver Nuggets

26 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 5.9

Assists: 2.4

Rebounds: 2.6

Steals: 0.6

Blocks:0.2

Hamilton could crack the regular rotation since Wilson Chandler and J.R. Smith are stuck in China, but I wouldn't expect too much right off the bat.

27. JaJuan Johnson, Boston Celtics

27 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 2.8

Assists: 0.4

Rebounds: 2.8

Steals: 0.2

Blocks: 0.4

Right now, Johnson is a little soft and must get tougher to crack Doc Rivers' rotation. He will likely be a DNP on most nights, despite the Celtics' need for more frontcourt bodies.

28. Norris Cole, Miami Heat

28 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 9.6

Assists: 4.1

Rebounds: 2.5

Steals: 0.9

Blocks: 0.1

Cole will eventually be the starting point guard for the Heat and his numbers will be pretty good.

29. Cory Joseph, San Antonio Spurs

29 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 2.1

Assists: 1.4

Rebounds: 1.0

Steals: 0.4

Blocks: 0.1

He won't get major minutes on a veteran team looking to make one last title run.

30. Jimmy Butler, Chicago Bulls

30 of 30

2012 Projections

Points: 3.3

Assists: 0.8

Rebounds: 2.5

Steals: 0.4

Blocks: 0.4

Butler is raw and it could be tough for him to get off the Bulls' bench this season.
