NFL Playoff Scenarios: 5 Regular-Season Rematches We Want To See

Zach KruseDec 23, 2011

The following five games represent the best regular season rematches we could potentially see in the 2011 NFL playoffs.

Green Bay Packers vs. New Orleans Saints

The game that kicked off the 2011 season could very well be an NFC Championship preview. The Packers (13-1) and Saints (11-3) feature two of the NFL's best offenses and quarterbacks, which means points should be in abundance despite whatever weather Green Bay, WI, can throw at the two.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Baltimore Ravens

Points not your thing? Than cheer for the Steelers (10-4) and Ravens (10-4) to meet, and they very well could in the divisional round with the way the AFC playoff picture is shaping up right now. Points are always hard to come by in this rivalry, as both the Steelers and Ravens have possessed among the best defenses of the past decade.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Dallas Cowboys

Not only did these two wage an overtime battle in Week 2 that saw Tony Romo re-enter the game with broken ribs and a punctured ribs to complete the clinching pass to Jesse Holley, but there's such a deep history between the two. Super Bowls, NFC championships, you name it. These two franchises have them in abundance. Another postseason meeting would only add another page to this strung out rivalry.

New York Jets vs. New England Patriots

The Patriots swept the Jets in 2011, but they still have paid New York back for knocking them out of the playoffs last season in New England. Another postseason matchup, which would again be played at Gillette Stadium, would give them that chance. And any time you can match Rex Ryan vs. Tom Brady, you know you're going to see some fascinating football.

Pittsburgh Steelers vs. New England Patriots

The Steelers mostly had their way with the Patriots offense in Week 8, but you'd have to think Brady and Co. would have a better showing the second time around. Historically, Brady has owned the Steelers defense. This could very likely be the AFC championship game.
