25 Most Jaw-Droppingly Perfect WWE Matches Ever

The Doctor Chris MuellerDec 30, 2011

Over the many years WWE has been in business there have been numerous matches that have stood out among the rest as being spectacular.

What the best match of all time is has been a hotly debated topic for years as most people will pick a match featuring their favorite superstar while some others will pick something technically sound.

Whatever your opinion on the matter is there is no denying that there have been plenty of matches worthy of being called perfect.

Here is a list of what I feel are "The 25 Most Jaw-Droppingly Perfect WWE Matches Ever." This is a matter of opinion so if you disagree please feel free to leave a comment below.

Fair warning, many of these videos are of the entire match for what is listed so be prepared to either skip some videos or watch several hours worth of matches.

CM Punk vs John Cena Money in the Bank

1 of 26

CM Punk and John Cena put on a great program this year and the payoff was that they both elevated their game.

John Cena has never been known as a technical wonder in the ring, but he is talented, WWE would not have pushed him for this long if he wasn't, plain and simple.

This match between WWE's two top Raw superstars was arguably the best in either man's career. Some people will point out CM Punk's work in ROH as his best, but this match had everything and more.

It was exciting, fast paced when it needed to be and methodical when necessary. Both guy came away from this match looking like strong wrestlers despite Cena being the one to lose.

By many accounts this is the best match in Cena's career, but I think he still has time to beat it.

Kurt Angle vs Shawn Michaels WrestleMania XXI

2 of 26

Kurt Angle will no doubt go down as one of the greatest pro wrestlers to ever step through the ropes, but he will not be higher on the list than his WrestleMania 21 opponent Shawn Michaels.

There is a reason Michaels has the nick name Mr. WrestleMania. He has performed time and time again above everyone else at the event.

This match was no exception. This was one of the few times when a non title match was the highlight of the night at a PPV, let alone at a WrestleMania.

Michaels and Angle pulled out all the stops in this one, but eventually it was Angle who got the victory.

The Undertaker vs Edge WrestleMania XXIV

3 of 26

Edge and The Undertaker have had several great matches with just about every stipulation you can think of, but their best match took place at WrestleMania 24.

This match was for the World championship and Edge had Vickie, Hawkins and Ryder by his side that night. the power of La Familia could not overcome the power of the dead man.

Undertaker got the win and left WrestleMania as the World Champion.

Daniel Bryan vs Dolph Ziggler Bragging Rights

4 of 26

Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan face off in an IC vs US champion match. Neither belt was on the line, just pride and Bragging Rights.

Ziggler and Bryan stole the show that night, outperforming everyone else on the card by miles. They were lauded in back as having just put on a classic.

WWE.com actually had a poll asking fans which match was better, this or Taker vs Michaels from WrestleMania. That is itself is a hug compliment to both superstars.

WWE was so happy with the response that they had these two have two more matches the same week, one on Raw and one on SmackDown.

The match at Bragging Rights stands out as one of the best matches in either man's WWE career.

Ric Flair vs Randy Savage WrestleMania VIII

5 of 26

Ric Flair and Macho Man Randy Savage are two of the greatest in ring competitors of all time, so it should be no surprise that when they got in the ring together they had great matches.

This match in particular was a very personal and heated battle and it ended in a bloody Ric Flair losing the WWE title to Savage.

Miss Elizabeth was in Savage's corner, but Mr. Perfect was there in Flair's corner to help the Nature Boy out.

For whatever reason this was not the final match on the card, but it was undoubtedly the best of the night.

John Cena vs Shawn Michaels 60 Minute Match

6 of 26

John Cena and Shawn Michaels faced off at WrestleMania 23 for the WWE title, but it was a match they had in London on Raw which stands out as their best.

due to Randy Orton not being able to make the trip to face Edge WWE had to come up with something for the second half of Raw.

John Cena and Shawn Michaels stepped up to the plate and delivered a candidate for match of the year when they went sixty minutes before Michaels finally got the win.

The match was incredible and saw numerous spots by both men which were very impressive. Michaels has done Iron Man matches before, but this was not one of those matches, this was simply a one on one match which went for an hour.

This does not happen in WWE very often if ever, but it happens frequently in promotions like ROH and other indy companies.

WWE should have more matches like this because both men came out looking like strong competitors even though only one man won.

Curt Hennig vs Bret Hart SummerSlam 91

7 of 26

Curt Hennig went by the name Mr. Perfect, and if there was anyone deserving of that name it was him. He was an amazing in ring technician and a great heel.

The fact that Perfect never won the big one in WWE always bothered me, but like Arn Anderson and Roddy Piper it sort of adds to his legend.

SummerSlam 91 saw Mr. Perfect defend his IC title against another great wrestler, Bret Hart. This match was the match of the night by a wide margin.

Each man looked like they would win at numerous points in the match, and Bret even kicked out of the perfect-plex, something not seen before.

Hart took home the IC title that night which put him on the path to being a triple crown champion and future hall of famer.

Steve Austin vs Bret Hart WrestleMania XIII

8 of 26

Another match featuring Bret Hart to make the list was his match with Stone Cold Steve Austin at WrestleMania 13.

The match featured Ken Shamrock as the referee, which went along with the Submission Match rules set out for the bout. There were to be no disqualifications, someone would win.

Bret got the win over Austin, but after the match was over he refused to release the sharpshooter. This marked one of the only times I can remember where two men went in as a heel and face and came out of the match in the opposite roles.

Austin was an instant fan favorite while Hart recruited his new Hart Foundation after WrestleMania. This match will always be one of my favorites for how it turned out in the end.

Hardys vs Dudley vs E&C WrestleMania XVII

9 of 26

The Hardys, Edge and Christian and The Dudleys redefined ladder matches when they had a triangle ladder match, but it was the first TLC match where they really took things to a new level.

While this match could be called a glorified spotfest, it was the best spotfest we had ever seen. Everyone pulled their weight in this match, but it was Jeff Hardy who stole the show with his risk taking moves.

Edge and Christian came away the champions, but all six men came away as winner. They had the most exciting match of the evening and paved the way for how ladder matches are fought today.

Taka Michinoku vs the Great Sasuke Canadian Stampede

10 of 26

Taka Michinoku and The Great Sasuke was not a match that I thought of when I made this list, it was a friend who mentioned it to me as havign been amazing.

I checked it out and I could not disagree. These two guys showed why Japan has such a strong following for pro wrestling.

This match had everything, high flying moves, takedowns, mat wrestling and tons of fast paced action. the Great Sasuke did not have the same kind of run in WWE that Taka had, but this match helped him leave his mark.

The Brain Busters vs the Hart Foundation SummerSlam 89

11 of 26

Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard may be better known for the Four Horseman but they also formed a team known as the Brain Busters.

At SummerSlam 89 these men faced off against legendary tag team The Hart Foundation. Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart represented the younger generation while Anderson and Blanchard represented the veterans.

This match was a great example of why WWE is missing the boat with not pushing the tag team division enough. Before the days of high flying tag teams these were the kinds of matches we got to enjoy.

Check out this match is you can, it is a great one.

Eddie Guerrero vs RVD Judgement Day 02

12 of 26

RVD and Eddie Guerrero are two men who are notable for having spent time in ECW, WCW and WWE. This is not something many people can say.

They have had other encounters in the past, but this one is by far their most entertaining match. It was frog splash vs frog splash as these two great high flying technicians put on a show for the WWE audience.

The Intercontinental title was one the line as Eddie Guerrero and RVD faced off. The match saw each man have numerous chances to win, only to have the other kick out.

In the end it was Guerrero who got the win. This match was on a card where Undertaker faced Hogan for the WWE title, but this encounter stole the show.

Steve Austin vs Shawn Michaels King of the Ring 1997

13 of 26

Steve Austin and Shawn Michaels are not just good wrestlers, they are good story tellers. Whenever these two wrestled, whether it was as opponents or partners, they could make you believe what they were doing.

Michaels and Austin may both be known for some of their higher profile matches at Mania, but this match at King of the Ring stands out as one of their best.

The match may have had a double DQ ending but it had every kind of great moment a wrestling fan wants in a match. It was exciting, had great back and forth action and showed both men to be strong competitors.

Undertaker vs Shawn Michaels WrestleMania XXV

14 of 26

What can you say about Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker that has not already been said. They are two of the best in the history of the business.

This match marked their first encounter at WrestleMania. In every other match the two had prior to this night HBK wither won or the match ended with no winner.

The Undertaker had his streak to defend while HBK wanted to be the man who ended it. For all the hype this match had beforehand, it did not do it justice.

This was the most talked about match of the year by far. These two veterans proved that they could outperform any young talent in the back if they so chose.

Undertaker ended up defeating HBK and the two both took a long hiatus afterwards to rest up and come back strong for their rematch the next year.

Royal Rumble 1995

15 of 26

This is the one and only Battle Royal to make the list, but there is good reason. This marked the first time someone would enter the Rumble as number one and survive all the way to the end to win the whole thing.

This match was not the typical Rumble as there were two men who were there throughout the entire match. Shawn Michaels and The British Bulldog were the first and second men in the ring, and they were the last two men out.

Shawn came close to being eliminated in the end, but he was able to power himself back over the ropes and eliminate the Bulldog who had thought he already won the match.

Shawn would not win his WrestleMania match for the title this time, but the next year he would win his second Rumble and go on to win the title.

Dolph Ziggler vs Edge Royal Rumble 2011

16 of 26

Dolph Ziggler was at one time the next big thing on SmackDown. For whatever reason he lost his push when he was traded to Raw and had to climb his way back up to where he is now the next big thing on Raw.

Back when Edge was world champion Vickie Guerrero was leading her new man to challenge him for the title. Dolph Ziggler had proven he was a legitimate challenge for Edge, and he did not disappoint in this match.

There were several times where I was watching thinking he would definitely win, only to have my hopes dashed and Edge prevail in the end.

This match was Ziggler first PPV World title match, but I can guarantee you he will have many more in the future.

The Hart Foundation W/ Danny Davis vs the British Bulldogs W/ Tito Santana WM3

17 of 26

The Hart Foundation and The British Bulldogs have so much history between them that it would be hard to list it all here.

With three of the men being related by marriage this match had it's share of friendships and brotherhoods among the competitors.

This was a clinic in wrestling and this match is a must see for any wrestling fan. It showcases tag team wrestling at it's best with two of the most gifted teams to ever compete.

The Hart Foundation were joined by evil ref Danny Davis while The Bulldogs teamed with legendary wrestler Tito Santana.

In the end it was The Hart Foundation who got the victory in a match that went down at one of the biggest WrestleManias of all time.

Owen Hart vs Bret Hart Steel Cage Match

18 of 26

Brother vs brother feuds are always entertaining due to the personal nature, but none more so than Bret and Owen Hart's feud. The two sons of Stu Hart had a rivalry which spanned years in the WWE.

Owen felt he was always in Bret's shadow, and he stepped out from that shadow when he defeated Hitman at WrestleMania 10, but when he challenged Bret for the title inside a steel cage it would be a different outcome.

The match was brutal for the time and both men seemed to come away beaten and bruised. The ending is one of my favorite endings of any match in their rivalry.

Owen had Bret in the Sharpshooter and it looked like Bret would have to tap out since the match had no DQ or rope breaks.

In a move never before seen Bret was not only able to break free of the Sharpshooter, but reverse the hold altogether and make Owen tap out.

This is another required must see match for any wrestling fan. I miss Owen and I hope someday the people who are keeping his name away from WWE will allow him to be inducted into the hall of fame and memorialized like he deserves.

Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar WrestleMania 19

19 of 26

Brock Lesnar had what many would call a very short tenure in WWE, but he made his impact against some of the biggest names in the history of the business.

His best match was against fellow ring great Kurt Angle. Their match for the title at WrestleMania 19 was one of the most exciting matches either competitor had ever been a part of.

It had everything; mat wrestling, high flying spots, brawling and all out mayhem. Both men wanted to prove they were the superior athlete.

When the smoke cleared Brock Lesnar was standing tall as champion and he and his rival Angle embraced in a hug which showed each man's true respect for each other, a moment rarely seen in WWE.

Shawn Michaels vs Chris Jericho Ladder Match

20 of 26

Shawn Michaels may have helped usher in the ladder match, but Jericho has won more of them than Shawn has even competed in.

Their bitter rivalry which began when Jericho accused Michaels of fabricating an injury turned personal when Jericho threw HBK through the TV in his highlight reel set.

The ladder match these two put on has been called the best singles ladder match in history by some, but even if you disagree with that statement you have to admit the greatness this match beholds.

Both men came away with legitimate injuries from this one, but that just shows how much they were trying to put on a good show.

Jericho would defeat Michaels to retain his World title in a match that will no doubt be featured on many DVD sets and highlight reels.

Stone Cold Steve Austin vs the Rock WrestleMania XIX

21 of 26

How do you pick which match between The Rock and Stone Cold is their best? It is a hard thing to do but in the end I had to go with their match from WrestleMania 19.

Both men had been at the top of the mountain for awhile at this point, but they needed to face off on the grandest stage of them all to settle their feud.

This match was not for a title so neither man had anything to lose and everything to gain. The Rock was able to defeat Stone Cold in what will go down as one of the greatest WrestleMania matches of all time.

Hulk Hogan vs Andre the Giant WrestleMania III

22 of 26

Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant created one of the most memorable and iconic moments in wrestling history at WrestleMania 3 when Hogan slammed Andre.

This may not seem like much given that we have seen a few different guys lifting Big Show in slams suplexes and firemans carry slams but back then there was nothing like this.

Andre was the biggest thing in WWE and Hogan was ready to take his spot. When Hogan and Andre fought this match it was a spectacle because both men performed at their very best.

Watching Hogan win the title and slam Andre will always be one of the most memorable moments in wrestling history.

Shawn Michaels vs Bret Hart 60 Minute Iron Man Match

23 of 26

In WWE we do not often get a match which goes for 60 minutes or more, which is why this match is so special. The first official Iron Man match was between Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels.

Their rivalry had already spanned many years and the two had fought over the Tag and IC titles in the past. This match was everything you could hope for in a wrestling match and more.

Both men showed why they were the highlight of WrestleMania and when it was all said and done Shawn Michaels won his first WWE title after the match was restarted in overtime.

No one had gotten a win in the sixty minutes and WWE did not want to have their main event end in a tie. Bret came back, but fell to a superkick.

This match will stand the test of time as one of the prime examples of what great wrestling is.

Bret Hart vs British Bulldog SummerSlam 92

24 of 26

Bret Hart and The British Bulldog had one of the greatest matches of all time in Bulldog's home country of England during SummerSlam 92.

Bret was the IC champion and Bulldog was the challenger. They came into the match as friends and family, but they fought the match like bitter rivals.

It was a clean match, but they pulled out all the stops. This match is one of the rare times you will see these two men go one on one, and it did not disappoint the fans.

Bret was defeated by his brother in law after Bulldog pinned Bret, reversing Bret's own attempt at a pin. The two embraced after the match and Bret held Bulldogs hand high in honor of his title win.

Ricky Steamboat vs Randy Savage WrestleMania III

25 of 26

This list may not have been in any particular order, but there is only one match which can be number 1 one the list. Randy Savage vs Ricky steamboat from WrestleMania 3.

Hogan and Andre may have stolen the show in terms of entertainment, but these two stole the show in terms of great wrestling.

This match proved WWE was not just some place where giants and body builders came to play, it was the home of legitimate wrestlers.

Savage and Steamboat are two men who could always put on a good show, so it should not have surprised anyone when combining them was like trapping lightning in a bottle.

Ricky Steamboat ended up with the victory, but both men deserve praise for this amazing performance.

That's All Folks
