LSU vs. Alabama Rematch: BCS Guaranteed Backlash as Crimson Tide Win Close One

Gabe ZaldivarDec 23, 2011

It really wouldn't be bowl season without a giant controversy hitting the BCS.

So it is with that thought that we thank the voters and computers that placed Alabama and LSU together for one more dance that is sure to disgust more than half the nation. We are about to see what awkward looks like on national TV.

What is it they say in regards to the BCS and college football? Every win matters—or is it every loss? Either way, LSU has a ton of the former and none of the latter. They are perfect in respect to record and could actually lose the title to a team who has a loss and whom they already beat this season.

The game itself will hold no surprises, and that's because these two teams are still very much the same as when they last played. There is a reason they are in the national championship game, and that's defense.

Their commitment to bring a concerted effort on that side of the ball will again be evident on January 9th when the two meet in New Orleans.

We are all about to watch three hours of two quarterbacks dropping back in the pocket, scrambling and then dumping off a pass at the last second.

The previous game could have gone either way. If you are looking for a reason beyond fate, Alabama lost that game more than LSU beat them. There is simply no way Alabama misses that many field goals again.

In a coin flip that already landed heads, I am banking on tails coming up this time around. When that happens, the LSU faithful will be good and mad that they had to once again prove themselves against a team they already bested.

The arguments will range from the silly, "How about two out of three?" to the thoughtful, "Why exactly aren't we playing Oklahoma State?"

No matter the answers or infinite amount of questions, one thing is quite clear, and that is the BCS has a problem on their hands. Just like they do every year.
